Kosovo at the Rogner
BY FRROK ÇUPI
I found my friend sitting beside one of the tables in the Café, around which two or three other people were also gathered. He half stood up and, glancing at the others, said: “Ministers of Kosovo...” For two or three days, those two men with gentle faces and honey-colored, flowing suits had caught my eye as they looked around somewhat bewildered. They looked like Kosovars, and like men holding official posts, while wearing ties in this sweltering heat. Still, I had not been able to imagine them as ministers.
The pleasure of meeting two new friends, all the more so from Kosovo, naturally mingled with another, twofold feeling. First, there is the very positive feeling that some Albanians from Kosovo have come to enjoy Tirana’s most luxurious hotel, with the simple name “Rogner.” The second feeling is a little bitter: here at the Rogner, or at another “Rogner,” people drink coffee and beer all day while talking about the war in Kosovo. If Kosovo were a beautiful Zone (as it is), but also a living being that could speak and react, it would surely say: “Stay, my children, enjoy your lives at the Rogner too, but do not mix my violence with your life far away from me.” Kosovo is a pearl and an unparalleled human spirit, and it says so every day.
But am I perhaps saying in this article that these people, enjoying beauty and luxury here in Tirana, Germany, America, Switzerland, etc., should leave everything and rush to Kosovo, where fighting is underway?! No, that is what the “patriots” and “nationalists” are shouting—the ones who fire off verbal bullets to urge people to enter the war, while hiding themselves where even the most resourceful investigator cannot find them. The political class, to some extent proven to be Kosovar, made the fatal mistake of sending its own people into war on the basis of folklorism and petty haste, without knowing how to get out, causing hundreds of deaths among the most innocent. In general, calls for war came mostly from politicians enjoying the luxury hotels of Europe.
So, once again, it would not matter at all that Kosovo’s ministers are at the Rogner if, from the “Rogner,” they were not calling only for war. The war is already fully underway, and I do not know how one can send people into it. We, the noble people of a country as beautiful as Albania, have had the misfortune—created by ourselves—that, in general, we have issued our “patriotic” calls from abroad. Being outside Kosovo now, while striking poses as a “saviour,” burdens a poor man with grave sins.

They abducted an 18-year-old in the middle of Tirana
Her fate is still unknown. Her parents are worried; police are investigating
Yesterday, right in the middle of Tirana, near the Pyramid (the former Enver Museum), an 18-year-old girl fell victim to an abduction by two armed people, both young men, one of whom has been identified by the criminal police.
The young woman, who was on her way to work, was suddenly seized by the two criminals, who then travelled to a city whose name is being kept secret by the police because of the investigation. The incident took place yesterday in the late morning and, as a result, police in several districts were placed on full alert by order of Deputy Minister Ilir Cano, blocking the main routes, although the police were informed of the girl’s abduction somewhat late. The senior official told “KJ” that work is under way along two leads as to where the abductors may have taken refuge. Such incidents, involving the abduction of women, have increased recently, supplying the insatiable prostitution market in Italy and Greece. For these criminals, who abduct girls and destroy their futures while bringing misery to their families, there should be only one trial: a bullet. Otherwise, crime cannot be fought in this country, which is full of endless crimes.
