BY TEODOR Keko Yesterday, amid an alarm and local unrest, the National Council of the Democratic Party met to elect the leadership structures. More than 100 delegates were received with hostility and fear by the people of Vlorë, who, with slogans and loud voices, were demanding answers about the former leader and the country's ruin. From the very beginning, accompanied by clashes and sharp tones, the conference was held under heavy security measures. The hall where the event took place was surrounded and the entrances were controlled. Only members with invitations and the leaders who had come from Tirana entered the hall. During the voting process there was opposition from many participants, who claimed that the process had been manipulated. Accusations were made of favoring candidates supported by Sali Berisha and of excluding other names from the lists. Also part of the debate were the methods used to count the votes and the composition of the commissions. At the end, the group close to Berisha managed to win the majority of the leading posts, something opponents described as a prearranged victory. The reactions outside the hall continued even after the meeting ended, with chants and banners against the leaders who had come from the capital.
