The government tidies itself up
After a period of several months of warnings and speculation, after the first components of the cabinet were removed, the names of the members who are to make up the government office have now become official. The new government announced last night by the future prime minister Pandeli Majko, without changing its structure but with a few changes of names, gives the impression of a completely new government in terms of composition, since only eight of the ministers from the “Nano 2” cabinet had been part of Fatos Nano's government, which was overthrown by the people's uprising at the beginning of last autumn. At the same time, the fact draws attention that the new cabinet includes the most diverse political forces, starting with the future prime minister Pandeli Majko himself, through the general secretary of the PS, and then PBDNJ, PUK, PLL, PSD, etc., that is, almost the entire range of parties from the governing coalition, but also from the opposition. The consequence of this picture recorded in the new government once again makes clear and bare the real reason for the replacement of Fatos Nano with Pandeli Majko. Will the new elite change the Albanian political scene, or is it destined to be a temporary phase? That was one of the questions circulating until late last night. What is intolerable in this cross-party mix? The answer will be more or less clear after the special parliamentary session. As an extended consequence of the political reform up to now is the inclusion of new ministers who are not only unheard of, but also selected for regional representation.
