If we had not seen him pass among us, bringing catastrophe and victims, we might have been deceived again by the Wolf’s “white” paw and opened the door. He knows this, which is why he does not knock, but waits beyond the gate. But what is inside the house, this side of the gate? First, it has a burden of great troubles left behind by “Madam Crisis”: weapons in people’s hands, the mafia, vigilante justice, economic conflicts, poverty, criminals released by yesterday’s decree, destroyed roads, unemployment, and scenes of war that frighten investors and tourists. There is also a glimmer of hope, a calm way of making the government’s work public, an open field for public and political expression, and some projects. Nevertheless, recovery is happening very slowly, and confidence is at risk. Second, inside the house on this side of the gate, there are now discussions about changes in the government. Some are genuine plans; others are invented by speculation. In any case, tensions among the members of the governing coalition have increased because of this. There are statements, objections, remarks, perhaps even outbursts and hotheadedness. Let it all come to an end. But beyond the gate waits the one we saw last spring. He has two hopes in his hands: one is that the “bomb” he planted, which has still not been discovered since last year, will explode now. The second is that the tension among the allies will turn into conflict and division. After that, the Wolf knows what to do. Are we right to imagine the worst? It is not good to let our minds turn to the worst. But just as often, it is our duty to sound the alarm in the human conscience in order to prevent it. What else should be done, besides sounding the alarm? There is much to do beyond this threshold. First of all, there must be a clear memory of the mandate the people gave the government to put the country’s fate back on track. Don’t forget, dear government—it must be written right at the front. Second, there must be the utmost dedication: “I serve in government; I am not served by those who are governed.” And finally: face to face with the people, with trust. “Madam Responsibility” must be set free as soon as possible. The people are waiting on this side, for Good Fate.
