Lino meets Majko
The Prime Minister on 15 January in the Vatican with the Pope and at the end of the month in America
Minister Kofi begins the purges
The expansion of the coalition
With a speech that was still reassuring, yet nevertheless somewhat surprising and perhaps incomprehensible in view of the circumstances created, Prime Minister Pandeli Majko declared last night that on 15 January he will be in the Vatican to meet the Pope. This comes at the height of the delicate situation the country is going through and as the chances increase of Albania being drawn into a conflict on a much larger scale in relation to Kosovo. In the meeting with President Mejdani and then with the American ambassador in the late evening hours, the Prime Minister made it known that he would leave for two days for the Vatican, perhaps leaving the country in a somewhat uncomfortable position at a time when increasingly strong voices are speaking of a NATO military strike, but at a delicate moment and at a time when the American ambassador in Tirana would be speaking at length with the Prime Minister in his office. This statement of his was made at the meeting on expanding the coalition, where Majko is discussing with the leaders of the allies their participation in the government. The chairman of the Balli, Adriatik Alimadhi, has been proposed for deputy prime minister, but on the other hand it was learned yesterday that the reshuffle will be carried out after consultation with the allies and partners. The same forecast applies to the PDS led by Gjinushi. In the late evening hours, President Mejdani, the American ambassador Mrs. Lino, the head of SHISH Fatos Klosi and the Minister of Order Perikli Teta arrived in a hurry at the Prime Minister’s office. This movement has been seen as a strong sign that extraordinary developments may occur around the Kosovo issue, possibly even NATO military intervention. At the same time, some new movements have begun within the state apparatus. The Minister of Order, Kofi Abazi, has begun purges in subordinate structures, something that is also linked to the expected developments. Photo ARAMA
