Throughout the day yesterday, following the closure of Rinas International Airport, foreigners (as well as Albanian families) left on ferries on the route to Italy. It is reported that the number of ferries in Durrës has doubled. The number of people leaving through the border crossing with Greece is also exceptionally high, perhaps also because of the widespread panic that Greece might close its borders with Albania as a result of the conflict spreading. Sources from the Ministry of Transport and Public Order also explain that Rinas International Airport has been closed for an indefinite period and that the runway is dominated by military aircraft and anti-aircraft tanks instead of planes. Likewise, it is impossible to cross into Macedonian territory because of thorough checks, and also because of the danger that Macedonia, too, could face.
