Italy and Greece stand by and watch the Albanian catastrophe

By last night, no serious aid had come from neighboring countries Nikollë Lesi By late last night, the number of people fleeing Kosovo had surpassed 90,000, refugees in families of 6-7 members. They are storming in and somewhat overwhelming the night’s calm amid hundreds of thousands of tragedies caused by Serbian forces. Meanwhile, the total number within four days could rise to more than 300,000 Kosovars, which is horrifying! No matter how much the OSCE Mission in Kosovo was monitored and then withdrawn, Albanians still are not closing their suitcases of tears! Thousands of children, elderly people and others are on the verge of death. No one would have believed such a huge tragedy on the eve of the 21st century. No one, if a sight like this of hundreds of thousands of Albanian emigrants were to appear before the TV cameras! Nothing else matters anymore about the killings, the burnings, the rapes and the expulsions. All of it is crushed beneath the catastrophe of refugees hungry and thirsty for a little bread. Let us be clear! Let us clearly know that the eyes are on the territories and not 1,500 dollars [?], for example, before television cameras, to show how much a poor workers’ family cost. If the government and other institutions have acted to provide assistance to the refugees from Kosovo, Albania’s greatness and the Albanian land know no limits! But what about the television conditions—are they real? What about sleep, hope, the country’s peace, the tragedy? What is the government coping with? Now it seems that in the first accounts it is enough to say “government village,” but this is more than a human outcry. People need help, food, cigarettes, blankets, clothing and shoes. But what is Italy doing? What about Greece? The first countries that should have been there with aid convoys and international refugee-monitoring centers are the two countries closest to our continent and to the catastrophe that is unfolding. No one will easily conceal the truth about Italy before the Albanian customs checkpoint! Nothing will mean anything more if aid is to be carried out as a priority by other states! Let us be clear again! Know this well! Because these countries are at the front of the line! Let us be clear! In such cases, much must be done. This situation cannot be defended with any beautiful words, but with the pain of those who have fled. No one can cover up what happened. The displaced are looking for a place, bread, survival. That is why strong statements are needed, governments are needed, money is needed and action is needed. Italy, as one of the most industrialized countries in the world and with 0.5 economic installments provocation, may remain inactive. Greece as well. In this crisis, concrete things are needed, not empty words. If there is no will to enter this human drama, then kind words are a low luxury. p. 9
