The compromise that exhausted OSBE

BY FERDINAND XHAFERRI PD deputy The procedures for selecting the electoral process are drawing near to the chopping block. By now, the preliminary consensus reached by BY-PD on the opposition side has been the result of a pact orchestrated by OSBE, conditioning it on the implementation of the principle of representative equality in parliament. Thus, from an institutional and international point of view, the opposition is prejudged as incapable of making a political contribution, because it has been defanged and atomized. This situation, on the part of the parties, represents an Albanian minority willing to cooperate, incapable of a solution that, from a broad, winning approach, includes both government policies and the compromise of the exchange of interests, rightly left within the standards of the electoral process and the choice of the vote. This is a procedure completely different from the one we agreed on in the first agreement of 9 June. Without this procedure we will have no clarity, no political stability, and no basic reference point. Despite the comments of some center parties, which do not want to understand what the balanced formula for the elections will be, we have agreed not to continue toward a process without standards. In these circumstances, we consider it necessary to withdraw from vague formulations and return to the fundamental agreement. As a result, the disagreements that exist today are not merely procedural, but affect the essence of a process that must be fair and transparent. If this principle is not respected, any other solution remains nothing more than a compromise that also exhausts OSBE itself. page 5
