Prime Minister Meta met yesterday in the United States of America with the American Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright. The meeting lasted 40 minutes; it was one of the longest for a prime minister in relations between the US and Albania. The optimistic statement about future relations was also excellent. The Secretary of State highly praised the work of the Albanian Government in restoring order, especially for stability in the region and in Kosovo. Sali Berisha and the local opposition can go hang their heads in shame. Her ties with the KLA are still alive. She says in energetic terms that the new government must do energetic work and be determined in moving ahead with reforms. The American Secretary of State stated that the new Albanian government clearly understands the importance of political dialogue and democratic governance and has taken important steps in strengthening the rule of law. Meta and Albright also discussed the fight against crime, the Kosovo issue, and Albania's Euro-Atlantic integration.
