It will take just over 2 more weeks to reach 10 years since the time when Sali Berisha, sent by Ramiz Alia, asked the students to end their protest and go to school. Back then they drove the communist doctor away, but later it is unclear what force brought him back. The decade is bringing Berisha’s political cycle to a close, for the period of pluralism. Just as 10 years ago, he has returned to his hatred of America and the Americans, and of all those foreigners who rightly believe they are dealing with a marshal of Zhulali’s army of deserters, not a politician. The violence he is inciting and the wire with which he seeks to destroy Albania, democracy and pluralism are stripping the marshal of every political rank. He has entered the field of a battle lost against everyone. The latest attack on the American ambassador is a disgrace that neither Albanians nor the American administration should accept. A man who, entrusted by his own State, works for Albania’s development more than the absolute majority of Albanian politicians and government officials, a man who feels the responsibility for the lack of development more than the absolute majority of Albanian politicians and government officials, does not deserve such a reward. Although the Albanian government has not deemed it appropriate to react in defense of Albanian tradition (since in this case it is hardly a matter of politics), perhaps the American administration should react directly to show that US policy toward Albania favors peace and stability and is openly against the violence Berisha offers. It is not known what Berisha will say about yesterday’s statement by former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema, who publicly announced the end of the era of Milošević, Tuđman and Berisha. It is clear from this that it is this breed of politicians that has held, or is still seeking to hold, the country and the region hostage. Berisha’s presence in politics is what holds back Albania’s development and integration; tolerance toward Berisha is what erodes the confidence of Albanians and investors in Albania. The man holding the PD hostage has lately decided to call into question the Albanian national faith. He will come out on 28 November to occupy the Square, holding a rally to test what all Albanians will do and what they will do against the faith, and to seek confrontation, with the aim of turning 28 November into a day of mourning. At this point he has tried everything and has done most of it. It is not known how far he will go.
