“If someone insists without reason that an agreement must not be reached, in the end they will isolate themselves, because the process will move forward” Today, 17 political parties meet to correct the electoral process and the CEC “PD avoids the opposition “We are not ready.” This sentence was one of the excuses for PD and its allies not to participate in today’s roundtable organized by the OSCE. The roundtable will examine preparations for creating suitable conditions to hold the general elections in June, taking as its starting point the mistakes made on 1 and 15 October. But while the governing side and part of the opposition have shown themselves ready, PD and its small allies say they are not ready. Their not being ready means that all the rallies being held have no value whatsoever; their not being ready means that all the files sent around Europe (and rejected) concerning alleged election fraud were nothing but a fairy tale. Berisha’s unwillingness to discuss the matter shows only that he had and has no objections to the process conducted in the local elections, but alleged fraud merely to avoid admitting defeat. It has now been more than two months since PD declared that it had evidence of violations in the local elections, that it did not like the Electoral Code, and that the CEC was not independent. But throughout this period, it seems that no one within the party has considered how to find a way to change the Electoral Code and the CEC, or to create the means to prevent the alleged fraud. In these circumstances, if there really was fraud in the local elections, Albanian voters should be even more disappointed that the opposition does not defend their vote, because it neither knows how nor wants to do so. In these circumstances, the opposition has placed itself outside the institutions and outside dialogue, and has plunged into an attempt to destabilize the country and create institutional chaos, in order to create unacceptable conditions for the general elections, with the aim of having as many opportunities as possible for fraud. Under these circumstances, it seems that the party most interested in fraud is PD, which continues to fight alone against the Albanian state and all the other states and organizations that help Albania. The roundtable will go ahead even without PD, and this is the clear message everyone has decided to send the head of this party: boycotting the institutions is not a solution, but the isolation of a political force. In this great isolation and oblivion into which PD is sinking, a genuine opposition force will soon be needed.
