A PRECIOUS VERDICT FOR ALBANIAN DEMOCRACY

The ownership of PDSH in BDF. In our country, recently the issue of compensation for former owners has been raised, a complicated matter carried over from the past. In PDSH there have been clear statements in favor of the government’s policy on the issue of ownership in Albania. In this context, our country needs a land reform that would prevent a return to private property and current disregard, because in addition to certain solutions in favor of creating a middle class of owners, the country needs fair legal and economic solutions. The Albanian government is determined to implement the laws enacted for economic reform and for restoring property rights. But this cannot be done at the expense of social stability. Equally clear is the need to correct the injustices of the past with feasible means. In this context, PDSH has announced that it supports a policy of private property and not mixed ownership, which would bring unclear consequences and new conflicts. Albania needs a market economy based on private property that is clear and legally guaranteed. This issue remains complicated and requires careful political and legal treatment, in order to preserve social balance and strengthen Albanian democracy.

The PS group of deputies in the game of the State Security

Statement by the PD group of deputies The latest news published in the press organ of the Socialist Party and the discussions held in this spirit in the plenary session of the People’s Assembly show that a group of PS deputies has been drawn into a dangerous political game. This game concerns an attempt to distort the meaning of democracy and to rehabilitate the old mechanisms of the State Security. Instead of helping to fully clarify the crimes of the past and to make a final break with the totalitarian legacy, these deputies are trying to cast a fog over public opinion. This serves neither the rule of law nor the national interest. The PD group of deputies condemns this stance and calls on all political and social forces to support transparency, the opening of files, and a full distancing from the practices of the State Security.

The State Security liked a new party

on page 4 may be to consolidate... [?] After the collapse of monist power and the structures of dictatorship, numerous efforts have been made to recreate in new forms old influences in Albanian political life. In this context, movements and initiatives are coming to the fore that present themselves as new, but carry the spirit and mechanisms of the past. One of these developments is linked to attempts to create a new party, which according to the assessments made does not arise as an organic need of society, but as a project encouraged by circles seeking to preserve their control through new political forms. If Albanian democracy is to be strengthened, this can happen only by cutting political life off from any influence of the former structures of the State Security and the communist apparatus.

VIGILANCE "It changes its hair, but not its habits"

5 on 23.9.92, in my courtyard, where the house well and the tap are located, a person I did not know came and began to draw water. I asked him who he was and he told me he had been sent to see about some work. His behavior made an impression on me and forced me to be attentive. Later I learned that this person had ties to people who once served in the old structures of power. This led me to think that the freedoms we have won must be guarded with vigilance and that the return of old habits must not be allowed. Citizens must be aware that changing the system does not automatically mean changing the mentality of those who served the past.
