LETTER FROM PRESIDENT BUSH SENT TO PRESIDENT BERISHA
The USA support the rights of Albanians in Kosovo
For our country there are two unacceptable alternatives in solving the Kosovo problem: either the partition of Kosovo, or massive repression against the Albanian population. The goals of the American president George Bush in the place of serious conflict over Kosovo are clearly expressed in the letter sent to President Berisha. The letter arrived in Tirana at the same time as signals had come in of further deterioration of the situation in Kosovo. At the beginning of this week, two Serbian policemen were killed in Kosovo in an organized ambush. Meanwhile, as Serbian military and police forces are reinforcing their deployment in many cities, President Bush reiterates that for the USA the only solution is to avoid partition and repression against Albanians. In his letter the American President underlines that the USA are convinced that the crisis can be resolved by peaceful means and by respecting the rights of Albanians in Kosovo. He also appreciates President Berisha’s efforts to preserve stability and defend Albanian national interests.
