Democracy means justice

The democratic dimension of political parties, the independent basic dominance in organizing their reform and in emancipating their membership, also determines the democratic emancipation of the ranks and the political class. Meanwhile, many parties in Albania have undergone a rapid transformation compared with the past, but not all have managed to build strong institutions of law and internal democratic control. If freedom is understood as the right to express one’s opinion, then justice is the guarantee that this right is not violated. Therefore democracy cannot exist without independent courts, without respect for the law and without equality before it. In this sense, the slogan of our time must be clear: democracy means justice. Albanian society is emerging from an era in which law was replaced by political command. This leaves behind serious moral and institutional wounds. Building the rule of law requires patience, political culture and civic courage. Justice reform, the separation of powers and administrative accountability are links in a single chain. The citizen must feel the state not as a threat, but as protection. Only then does the word democracy acquire true meaning.

We are brothers of one land — Albania

From the specially prepared representative of the PD, Mr. Hysen Mulla, a bridge linking with the Movement for the Creation of Values in Kosovo On Tuesday, 29.09.92, in one of the PD offices for Tirana, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Hysen Mulla, one of the most prominent intellectuals at the University of Kosovo, who later became a PD member and now works as coordinator of the initiatory commission for pluralism in Kosovo. I must say that in the place where we Albanians live, which has suffered and continues to suffer for many decades under one of the harshest dictatorships in Europe and in the world, under the Serbian red dictatorship, Mr. Mulla, with his calmness and wisdom, as well as his civic and national responsibility, speaks about democratic processes and the necessity of unity among the Albanian political forces in Kosovo. He emphasized that pluralism in Kosovo is not a luxury, but a historical necessity. The Albanian people there need organization, free thought, new institutions and dignified representation. According to him, the creation of democratic values and the defense of national identity are two inseparable pillars. The conversation also touched on relations with Albania, the moral and political support that Kosovo Albanians expect from the mother state, as well as the need for closer cooperation among intellectuals, students and the media. In the end he stated that Albanians are brothers of one land, one language, one history and one future — Albania.

Observation

Dynamics of the English charity association “Lidte për Shqipërinë” The society [?] in first place produced orientations for the activities of its English charity organization “Lidte për Shqipërinë”, created with the aim of helping Albania and Albanians. At a time when our country is facing many economic and social difficulties, such organizations constitute an important contribution. Members of this association have established contacts with various institutions, have collected material aid and have organized awareness campaigns for the English public opinion. Their activity includes aid for hospitals, schools and families in need. Recently, other donations have also been sent and longer-term forms of cooperation are being considered.
