Statement of the Democratic Party of Albania

Regarding the mass operations of concentration and forced redistribution of private property in the countryside, carried out by unauthorized organizations known as the 'land division committees', in several districts of the country, the Democratic Party of Albania declares: In implementation of Law no. 7501 'On the Land', land is assigned to peasant families for use, in accordance with the spirit of this law and by decision of the committees elected under it. Any action outside this legal framework is arbitrary, unlawful, and punishable. The Democratic Party calls on state bodies and local government to take immediate measures to stop these actions, to protect the constitutional order and the right to property. It asks citizens not to fall prey to provocations and to respect the law. Offenders will be held accountable before the law. The Democratic Party reaffirms that democratic reforms and the market economy cannot be built on violence, anarchy, and arbitrariness, but on legality, responsibility, and respect for human rights.
