SUPPORT FOR reform SUPPORT FOR DEMOCRACY THE PD BRANCH ASSEMBLY IN BALLSH, Z. E. SELAMI TAKES PART Yesterday, in the presence of an enlarged assembly of the branch of the Democratic Party in the district of Mallakastra, near the cinema hall in the town of Ballsh, where the Presidium member of the PDSh, Mr. Eduard Selami, also took part, a meeting with the electorate was held. The success and prospects of the economic reforms, as well as other issues of interest to the community, were discussed at length. Those present regarded the continued and determined implementation of economic reform as one of the most important problems facing Albania today, considering it the only path to a future of prosperity and well-being. Mr. Selami stressed in his speech that the PD highly values the remarks, suggestions and problems presented by the electorate with correctness and a willingness to solve them. He said that only the democratic spirit of dialogue and free communication with people can guarantee the success of the reform. The discussions touched on issues of water supply, problems in agriculture, privatization, the state of education and healthcare, as well as the need to improve public order and safety. Issues concerning land ownership and the way former owners should be compensated were also raised, as well as the demand to fight corruption and bureaucracy firmly. At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their conviction that support for reform is also support for democracy and its institutions. Z. E. SELAMI

THE ALBANIAN DELEGATION AT THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

PRESIDENT BERISHA'S MEETING WITH THE AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT, ELIÇIBEJ DAVOS, 29 January At the prestigious center of the World Economic Forum, numerous meetings were held by the Albanian delegation with high-level representatives of international politics and economics. The President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, held a meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Eliçibej, during which issues of bilateral cooperation and the situation in the region were discussed. Both presidents expressed their readiness to expand economic, trade and cultural relations between the two countries. Within the framework of the forum, the Albanian delegation also held meetings with heads of financial institutions and representatives of various businesses, where the opportunities for investment in Albania and the measures the government is taking to encourage the market economy were presented. President Berisha pointed out that Albania is determined to move forward on the path of democratic reforms and integration into European structures. (ATSH)

In some circles, there was also talk of possible political ties and of the influence of various factors in favoring this company. A visit that helped create a friendly atmosphere and good-neighborliness

ON THE VISIT OF THE PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION TO GREECE The mission of the Albanian Parliamentary Delegation to open a new chapter in relations with Greece, led by the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Pjetër Arbnori, was assessed as an important step toward improving the political climate between the two countries. During the stay in Athens, meetings were held with Greek counterparts and with representatives of other institutions, where issues of cooperation, minority rights and the prospect of good-neighborliness were discussed. The participants emphasized that the visit contributed to easing tensions and creating a more favorable atmosphere for dialogue. In the speeches delivered, the importance of mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and the development of stable relations between the two countries was underlined.
