-people, do not consider impossible the struggle that is compromising democracy's values.- The absolutization of power as an instrument of one-party rule inevitably drives toward the disappearance of freedom. From the very beginning of the political changes in Albania, light has been shed on this pressure opposed to the ideas of pluralism; not only in the pages of the independent press, but also in party documents and public statements. Today, after two years of experience in exercising power, it has become clear that carrying the burden of democratic transformation requires not only political will, but also institutional maturity and moral responsibility. The Democratic Party, as the main force behind this historic turning point, bears a heavy duty on its shoulders: safeguarding democratic gains, consolidating the rule of law, and dealing with the economic and social crisis. Great hopes have been placed on it, but at the same time also criticism, doubts, and obstacles. Nevertheless, its role remains decisive in preventing the return of authoritarianism and in affirming an open society. In this sense, every compromise with the principles of democracy, every tolerance of administrative arbitrariness, would be not only a political mistake, but also a betrayal of civic trust. For this reason, Albania's fate is closely linked to the ability of the DP to defend pluralism, respect institutions, and guarantee justice and equality for all. This burden is heavy, but not impossible for a force born from the aspiration for freedom.

PRESIDENT BERISHA RECEIVED A GROUP OF SAUDI ARTISTS From 9 to 12 March, a group of artists performing the Arab sword folk dance “Ardha” visited our country at the invitation of the Albanian-Saudi Friendship Cultural Association. During the meeting, the President of our Republic, Dr. Sali Berisha, informed about the activities of this Association and its President, Mr. Hysen Asani, greeted and encouraged this kind of initiative as an important contribution to the recognition and consolidation of mutual respect for the traditions and cultures of the two countries. For their part, the Saudi artists introduced the President to their impressions and their gratitude for the hospitality in Albania; they visited several industrial centers, monuments of ancient and socialist culture, as well as economic, educational, scientific, religious and artistic institutions. Since the President of the Republic has affirmed his appreciation for cooperation with the countries of the Middle East, he expressed his regard for the artistic and humanitarian activity of the Saudi artists.

VICTORY OVER THE DICTATORSHIP
