From 9 to 12 March, a group of businessmen and bankers led by Mr. Fawaz Al-Alamy, Vice President and Secretary of Saud Cable Co., visited our country. During their stay in Albania, they visited several industrial, mineral and health centers and held a series of important meetings with political figures and specialists in various fields. At their meeting with the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, they expressed their interest in cooperation and investment in the mineral industry, telecommunications, health care and tourism. President Berisha congratulated them on their projects and encouraged them to begin implementing them as soon as possible, which would be beneficial to both parties. (ATSH)

-People, do not fall into the trap being plotted by the SP and the deviators from the road to democracy!- The anti-communist movement in Albania was powerful. It began with the students, was strengthened by the workers, and received such great support from them that anyone who lived through the events of 1990–91 cannot forget that self-sacrificing solidarity. DP rallies were like hurricanes, drawing together all the democratic people. Communists also attended them, naturally following their sense of responsibility and guilt toward the people; people also came so as not to be left out of the situation, to appear as democrats, and to obtain some position in the newly established parties. Therefore, the day would come (and this became clearer after the victories) when those who were not 100% committed in their hearts to its program, as well as those who had joined for chameleon-like purposes or to get leadership posts, would emerge from that large popular grouping called the DP. They must not live in the euphoria of the victory of 22 March, but must be determined to carry out the party’s and government’s program duties honestly—first and foremost, the fight against corruption and the struggle for a broader economic outlook. Although the communist opposition is fiercely denying every achievement, patience and the ability to assess the path and the new means that will continually lead toward recovery are still required. Be more resolute about privatization, quicker in carrying out tasks and drafting laws, and more vigilant toward the obstacles put in our way. Otherwise, the damage will be great. At this moment, meetings and conversations with the people, and the organization of active, well-informed propaganda against agents in leadership positions, are of decisive importance. And the PS immediately began its activity, helped with money by the security service, to take the fortress from within and put the Trojan horse theory into practice. But it did not open. Thus, the PD currently remained a party that had purged itself, with people whose views and ideals did not match its program and actions leaving its ranks. Currently Currently, we find a grouping of forces against the PD. At the forefront of this bloc stands the PS, ready to slander, fabricate, and deceive. Through “ZP” and its deputies, this opposition categorically denies every action by the PD. By doing so, it proves not only that it has not been renewed, but also that it absolutely wants the power it lost. And if it knows it cannot govern alone, it nevertheless seeks new alliances and obstructions. The dream of their program: new elections. Victory through an alliance with the PD “Motionists,” whom it will use just to win and then do whatever it wants with them. The duty of every Democrat In these unsettled, thoroughly destabilizing circumstances, every member of the PD, especially …the manipulations of the united opposition. Let the files be opened; let the names of those who received loans from the government of stability be announced; let people know who concealed them or was himself a businessman among former PPSH-PS officials, and how they managed to acquire considerable start-up capital on the laughable salaries of those times… The people need to be told many things. If any former or current Democrat has benefited through abuse, do not hesitate to publish the name, because the people want to know the truth. Although the PS accuses the Meksi government of the banking and financial scandal, the people know that Mr. Vilson Ahmeti was not a prime minister appointed by democracy, but by Comrade Ramiz Alia and the PS. But there are also many things they do not know and that must be properly clarified. Along with accepting invitations to visit the highest institutions of the democratic world, do not neglect visits to those who gave you their votes. This latter thing, however, is being done so little that it is harming us. There is therefore room to do more than has been done, and indeed to work better. And the people? A certain weariness can be felt. The economic situation, despite improvements in… …the opposition’s destructive aggression, because they carried the fate of Albania on their shoulders. The role of the Independent Trade Unions and of the workers who swept aside a rotten system that was leading us toward asphyxiation must be strengthened, and this extraordinarily powerful force must help consolidate democratic power. Together with them, the martyrs of imprisonment and political persecution, as well as the former owners dispossessed for half a century, should not be driven so much by a small personal interest; instead, they should stand together for the party that gave them the right to live freely and to demand what communism denied them. Because, if the PS and its new allies win (God forbid that this should happen), the arrows of [unclear] will fall first of all upon them. That is why they should support the reforms and the PD, which carries a heavy burden; that is why intellectuals should not stand aloof and merely watch; that is why everyone who is truly against communism should join, without tying their contribution to Albania to a seat or a personal demand, when we are threatened with a return to a system that can never again be endured. It would be fatal for this people to fall once more into the hands of the Nano-Ruci duo and their associates. PETRO DHIMITRI

In “ZP” dated 12 March 1993, in connection with President Berisha’s position, we excerpt the following paragraphs from an article: At the beginning it says: -“It was expected that the President would live up to his mission as the representative of the entire people... but the opposite happened. His Excellency not only cannot break away from his DP party affiliation...(emphasis on DP party affiliation) In the middle of the article it says: -“It would have been a demonstration of loyalty to democratic ideals and the victories of 1991 on your part, President Berisha, to seek to influence the purging of the DP’s top leadership...(emphasis on purging the DP’s top leadership) At the end it says: -“You would truly represent national unity if you resigned from the DP leadership in order to be free from the influence and discipline of your party’s decisions...(emphasis on the influence and discipline of your party’s decisions). Our note: The committee is redundant. Come on, listen to “ZP” babbling in the name of socialist democratic messages. How can the President trust the criticisms of ZP and the SP?

To the President—(overbearing, arrogant, euphoric, demagogic, militant, Enverist, a squeezed lemon, nepotist, regionalist) To the Government:—(discredited... submissive, corpse, mediocre, careerist, servile, terrorist, ultramonist, shkpoligji, Kopliku, revanchist, rapist, Meks-Bulali, beggar, lacking national dignity, revanchist, despotic...) All the more so when the above article ends with the words:—“It is the cry of an exhausted people. Believe it, President! Act, President....!!!” Does the people really say what “ZP” writes? VICTORY OVER DICTATORSHIP

. To fight a disease, diagnosing it alone is not enough. The decisive thing in eliminating it is to discover its origin. The same must be done with Nano’s disease, which has begun to show some severe epileptic flare-ups. These seizures are particularly pronounced in the extreme left and center-left sections of the corpus of Albanian political parties, more precisely in the PS and AD. The diagnosis is precise: “BATALIUS PERPOTERIUS.” According to a study, it appears that Nano’s disease, lacking favorable conditions and ground for frontal development, will eliminate itself. The disintegration of communism as a system means the disintegration of every link in this chain, whether they like it or not. Albanian ALCHEMISTS (communists) created many laboratories of this kind. The greatest and most absurd one, created for this socialist man, was the Institute of M-L Studies, which, in turn, failed in its chosen purpose. It was precisely in these laboratories, where the alchemist (communist) Nexhmije Hoxha was the master, that Fatos Nano was created. The unscrupulous communist image, through its anti-Albanian and anti-democratic actions, is dismantling itself and the PS. This moral code guided him also while studying political and economic sciences and M-L at the University, but with more advanced distortions. Thus, on a communist-red morning, Fatos Nano sees himself in the suggestive laboratory of the Institute of M-L Studies, where it does not take long for him to become one of its worthy directors. Under the special care of the alchemist (communist) Nexhmije Hoxha, his moral and psychological, political and ideological qualities took the perfect shape of a bastard specimen of a typical communist. This man named Nano, with a programmed brain, will carry out—as he is blindly carrying out—all the instructions, plans, tactics, and ideas according to the handbook of the political bureau of the PPSH, especially those of its leader, Enver Hoxha. In Nano’s illness, it can be seen that the new circumstances of the PS (PP) political bureau have greatly stimulated the actions of the “Enverian virus,” which was present in this [unclear] from the time of his adolescence. Today, being, if not an Enver, at least his likeness, has become a goal that his party colleagues will hardly be able to thwart. Fatos Nano seeks to achieve a complete likeness between himself and Enver. For example, for some time he has been imitating the behavior of his youthful idol, such as frequenting cafés and drinking establishments, his desire to show off as a “garip,” his fake smile, the [unclear] of phrases. The diagnosis is accurate: “BATALIUS PERPOTERIUS.” According to a study, the Nano disease, lacking the conditions and favourable terrain for frontal development, will eliminate itself; however, there is also another possibility: this disease apparently has the characteristic of developing by force, and, if strong containment measures are not taken, excesses will arise. The only means of protection is intensive therapy. This therapy is called intensive unmasking. But for this therapy to produce results, it must trace the origin of this disease. In the Middle Ages there were some pseudo-scientists called alchemists, who worked for years in their mystical laboratories to create gold through chemical reactions. The result is known: they never created gold and thus remained in history as the most deluded people. In modern times, too, the communist system gave birth to some alcommunists (alchemists) who for 73 years struggled in their laboratories to create their own gold, the new socialist man. And the outcome is known. Their disintegration is inevitable. Their disintegration is inevitable. It was precisely in these laboratories that Nexhmije Hoxha and the scoundrel Fatos Nano were masters, like the (communist) alchemists. The unscrupulous communist image, which through its anti-Albanian and anti-democratic actions is serving itself and the PS, will leave nothing behind from this disintegration except the image of a bad winter dream. Why did Nano enter this laboratory? He entered because he met all the moral, political, and psychological requirements. Above all, his origins guaranteed it. He had inherited 100% of his father Thanas Nano’s communist genes. From his youth, this communist’s fanatical offspring showed himself only as someone destined to become a worthy observer of his predecessors’ criminal deeds. His schoolmates say he was ambitious, liked outrageous adventures, idolised Enver Hoxha, thought very highly of himself, and believed only he should shine. This morality meant that Fatos Nano and Fatos Lubonja, in order to excel in their final examinations, often broke into the safe and stole the exam questions.

From the statement of the political association “Anti-Communist 13 December 1990” of Shkodër We address you as people, as Albanians, as Shkodrans, and as an anti-communist association, concerning certain unconstitutional demands by the leader of the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, which are illegal and malicious and serve anarchy; namely, they call for “socialist” [unclear]—that is, the government—and early elections. These demands are entirely unconstitutional, and as such, punishable. They also aim to hasten [unclear] from the commission of judicial investigations, in which most of the social-communists are deeply implicated. Gentlemen Socialists! We remind you that we are the people who suffered most under the bloody communist dictatorship. And

At the latest press conference, Nano had also brought along an English interpreter, who translated all the answers given by the head of the Socialists. It is difficult to say precisely why Mr. Nano did this. Some say he was afraid of the journalists’ questions, and that the only way to avoid them was to let the interpreter eat up the time. Others say he did it to help foreign diplomats. The latter, however, is hard to believe, since, as far as could be determined, there was only one Chinese person and one Yugoslav in the room, both of whom knew Albanian well. In any case, every cloud has a silver lining: although the conference time was cut in half and many journalists were left without answers, they had the good fortune to attend an hour-long English lesson free of charge.
