HANS ONLY THE ALBANIANS' SOLUTION TO THE QUESTION OF FREEDOM GJIROKASTËR, Df. U [?] The President of the Republic, Sali Berisha, as part of his electoral tour, continued his visit to the district of Gjirokastër. After passing through Delvina, Saranda, Tepelenë and Libohovë, he arrived yesterday in the city of Gjirokastër. During meetings with the residents of this district, President Berisha said that democratic changes are moving forward and that Albania is definitively breaking away from the legacy of communism. He stressed that citizens must take part in elections and that the free vote is the main tool for determining the country's future. In his speech he underlined that freedom and independence are values defended only by Albanians themselves, and that no one else can solve their question of freedom. The President also spoke about economic difficulties, shortages and the severe inherited situation, saying that reforms take time, but that the path begun has no turning back. He called on citizens to remain calm, avoid provocations and support democratic institutions. Continuing his visit to Skrapar, the head of state was welcomed by many residents. He declared that Albania must move decisively along the path of reform and that the isolation of the past must not be repeated.
