THE IMMUNITY OF DEPUTY FATOS THAÇI NANO IS REQUESTED TO BE LIFTED
Presidium of the People’s Assembly, Tirana?
On the basis of the materials of the criminal proceedings sent by the judicial police service to the Tirana district prosecutor’s office, criminal proceeding no. 104 of 1993 has been registered against Fatos Nano, who at the time when the acts occurred was a deputy of the People’s Assembly.
From the documents submitted it appears that Mr. Fatos Nano is charged with the criminal offenses of abuse of office and document forgery, as provided for by articles 220, 171 and 186 of the Criminal Code. For this reason, the prosecution body is requesting the lifting of the deputy’s immunity in order to continue the investigation and proceedings in accordance with the law.
According to the submitted materials, at the time when he held state office, acts contrary to the law were carried out, causing serious financial consequences for the state. The competent bodies claim that there is sufficient evidence to continue the criminal prosecution.
This request has been submitted to the Assembly for consideration. The full text of the column is not clearly readable in many places because of the image quality and the page orientation.[?]
Socialists - communists, do not threaten justice!
The communist dictatorship killed, tortured, imprisoned and interned hundreds of thousands of Albanians, and it is unforgivable for it to return through a language of pressure against the justice institutions. It cannot be accepted that today voices should emerge seeking to intimidate the courts and the prosecutor’s office in the name of a sick nostalgia for the old regime.
If there were crimes, they must be investigated and the perpetrators held accountable. Albanian society needs justice, not threats. Those who have broken the law must appear before the court, not hide behind political slogans.

FANO’s last rally
It was a heavy rally with political speeches and accusations against the opposition. A harsh language was used at this rally, and the old propaganda tones were also present. According to the author, this was a sign that the old politics was trying to survive through tension rather than democratic debate.

WHY IS ZP “SO BLACK” TO US?
Regarding page 3 of RD dated 27.07.1993, with the title “In the currents of time,” “The writing of the mystery” and “Writing without an author,” Mr. Xhavit Muça, in the 20.07.1993 issue of the newspaper “Alternativa SD,” tries to defend the former activity of communism in Albania. He reacts to the article titled “In the currents of time,” calling it slander and fabrication. The truth is that the figures mentioned in that article are well known to public opinion and held important posts in the former apparatus of power.
The article says that Mr. Muça has tried to present many known facts as untrue, but without providing convincing arguments. His reaction is considered an attempt to relativize the responsibilities of the old political structures. The newspaper stands by its view that the communist past must be acknowledged as it was and not beautified.
