- Meeting of the PD branch in Laç, attended by Mr. Tomorr Dosti, Secretary General of the PDSH, ministers Alfred Sereqi, Tritan Shehu, Abdyl Xhaja, Rexhep Uka, and MP Rushen Golemi. This was the topic of the activity of the PD branch of Laç, held on 18 August at the servicemen’s club in this city. Also attending the meeting were the Secretary General of the PDSH, Mr. Tomorr Dosti, MP Rushen Golemi. After presentations on the topic of the meeting by gentlemen Hile Kalmani, chairman of the Laç PD branch, and Bardhok Rica, chairman of the district council, Mr. Dosti took the floor. “It is a pleasure to come to Laç,” he said, “to this city, which has formed its own political framework and crystallized its identity through votes in favor of the PD.” He then emphasized that the PD does not claim political exclusivity. “The only exclusivity for us is Albania. For nearly two years, the artistic production enterprise in Durrës did not operate as such. The workers were paid 80 percent of their wages, and the enterprise had no manager. A year ago, efforts began to get at least part of its activity up and running. The director of this enterprise, Hiqmet Shima, told ATSH that several approaches were used to achieve this. After several negotiations, one of the premises was rented to the Italian firm ICS, from the province of Bari. This firm employed 125 people from the workforce of 330 that the enterprise had previously had. Meanwhile, in the other premises, around 50 people sew schoolchildren’s bags and various types of sacks using textiles ordered by the Italian firm “Centro plu borse”. Another 60 people sew quilts, mattresses, work gloves, etc., generally on order from Albanians. A large part of the enterprise’s output is sold in its shops in Shijak, Sukth and Manzë, as well as by itinerant vendors. The workers receive wages which, depending on production, range from 3,500 to 6,000 lekë per month. Efforts are being made to expand the sheet-metal section and open the embroidery department, where additional people will also be employed.
