Corruption in the upper echelons of the PSSH
-Former communist prime ministers are accused of corruption and genocide-
-No. 1 and PSSH card No. 3 are in the dock-
-Operation “Clean Hands” dominates Mediterranean politics-
“Socialist” successes are how they describe the successful eruption of the “Clean Hands” operations, the anti-corruption campaign in Italy, France, Portugal, and neighboring Mediterranean countries with Albania, despite the fact that the governments in these countries are left-wing governments. These successive processes end with charges against ministers, politicians, members of parliament, etc. for corruption. Then comes the irony that such governments accuse the opposition of being “thieves,” “mafia members,” etc. As far as Albania is concerned, the “Clean Hands” operation carried out by the PSSH in its repeated denunciations is the most interesting thing for the Albanian public. On the eve of the March 1991 elections, Mr. Ylli Bufi declared that if the Socialist Party won, 10 percent of the national wealth would fall to the level of 1945. In 1991 it was found how the wealth of Blerim Çela of Kërraba was recorded. Nanos and PSH 100 million lekë. In the register of the Central Committee of the PPSH and the government, his own shares were indeed listed. This fact is also confirmed by others, and not only by his comrade. In a foreign bank, and from the accounts, hundreds of thousands of dollars were found in the name of Skënder Gjinushi, Ardian Klosi, etc. Will these disclosures be the last, or have the investigations only just begun?
In the bulletin of the daily “cooperation” with the PSSH’s “clean hands,” accusations of an almost daily nature have been levelled against the former communist prime minister, along with demands for his arrest for corruption. For several months, the newspaper “Koha Jonë” has been used by one wing of the socialists to attack the other wing of the socialists. This newspaper accuses former prime minister Vilson Ahmeti of abuses and serious violations of the law, especially in municipal state organizations. It also accuses the secretary of the Socialist Organization of Tirana, holder of PSSH card no. 3, Fatos Nano, head of the opposition, of dubious maneuvers, abuses and other clowning behavior. This time “Koha Jonë” makes a “visioscopic” type of denunciation, in which Ylli Bufi and Vilson Ahmeti clearly describe how state funds were used for the election campaign, for electoral investments, and for the benefit of the organization and propaganda editorial offices. Nano and Bufi are now often called among themselves “thieves,” “mafia members,” etc.
Would this really be so? Only if there were fellow democrats of crystal-clear vigilance. The socialists are accusing themselves. Regarding the constitution of the PSSH, Ylli Bufi boldly proclaimed in September 1991: “it is not the people of the communist regime who will govern Albania.” Then who are they? It turns out that the highest leaders of this party had been members of the Political Bureau, of the Central Committee, and prime ministers of the communist regime. It was these same figures who were “used” with an official presence on 6 April 1991 to cover up the burning of food shops by order of those killed by communism. The issue must be posed clearly: who should answer for the first files? In the framework of the “from above” exposure of socialist thieves, the second wing of the socialists seems to be doing a great deal of work. In addition to Blerim Çela’s own desire to shed light on the thefts of the former regime, the articles are being followed by mutual accusations, sometimes from the center of Tirana and sometimes from the corners of the opposition press.

Mr. Eduart Selami
Mr. Eduart Selami, chairman of the People's Commission of the Democratic Party, arrived yesterday in Tirana. He was received at Rinas Airport by the secretary-general of the Democratic Party, Prof. Dr. Gramoz Pashko, the chairman of the parliamentary group of the PD, Bashkim Kopliku, as well as members of the Presidency and of the People's Commission. Mr. Selami said that he valued and thanked everyone for the welcome they gave him. I bow before the sacrifice our people have made for democracy. He said that he would meet with the Presidency of the PD and with the party structures to discuss the work that had been done in his absence. In conclusion, Mr. Selami said that he would be here to help the Democratic Party and said that time would calm things down. With Mr. Selami’s arrival, the adventure of those who rushed to create diversions in the democratic movement comes to an end. The strong excitement of the socialists and of pro-communist figures over the Selami issue shows that they have no sympathy for him at all. Based on this symptom, it is ridiculous to think that the same thing could serve the rise of anti-democrats in Albania. This is also in line with the position Mr. Selami took in the US against the efforts of Nano’s government to indoctrinate foreign opinion with anti-Albanian propaganda. In the first words he said yesterday at Rinas, Mr. Selami made it clear that his return was in the service of strengthening democracy in Albania, and he expressed his willingness to cooperate with Albanian political forces. He added that if he considered it necessary, he would give a more detailed explanation in the coming days.

A meeting in New York with Professor Qose
These facts from the press include a great deal of pain and reflection, especially in 1991 and 1992. Qosja has written extensively and with feeling about the Albanian drama. In Kosovo and in Albania, his name remains associated with critical thought. But what stands out is the way he speaks about the fate of the nation, with a particular calm and seriousness. Our conversation focused on politics, culture, and the Albanian national question. He spoke about the moral responsibility of the elite and the need for a new awareness. In the end we parted with the hope that we would meet again.

A meeting in New York with Professor Qose
These last 2-3 years, our involvement in development, in poetry and prose, has brought the tremors of the state; if we are describing this era with an ironic name, it was such. In a newer time, so calm, smiling and gentle, the Albanian world turned toward a great political change. After such a challenge come even the answers of a writer. At the center of our attention for decades has been the figure of the distinguished academic Rexhep Qosja. The Albanian opposition has followed his activity with attention and curiosity. In one of the reception rooms of the “Pasaic” hotel in New York, I had the chance to meet Professor Qose. The conversation with him lasted about an hour and a half. The first question I asked him was the familiar one: Will Fatos Nano return from China?
