Yesterday morning, the chairman of the ADP and chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Eduard Selami, received the delegation of the North Atlantic Assembly, NATO, for a working meeting. Mr. Selami thanked NATO for the assistance it has given Albania and for its ongoing support, which has been and remains support for democratization. Albania’s membership as an associate in the North Atlantic Assembly, Mr. Selami continued, is of political, economic and military importance not only for Albania but also for the region. In this context, it is our wish that cooperation between Albania and NATO, which has been growing, be further deepened in the future. Mr. Selami then gave an extensive overview of the country’s economic situation. He informed the members of the delegation of the democratic government’s serious commitment to carrying out economic reform, emphasizing the priority of privatization in agriculture, stabilizing inflation, increasing economic production, etc. Foreign investment is important, Mr. Selami continued, and it appears to be impeded by the situation prevailing in the region. His interlocutors expressed sincere appreciation for Albania’s policy in the region. It is considered in political circles to be a factor for peace and stability. Expressing his concern over the crisis in the region, Mr. Selami stressed the need for the international community to take stringent measures to resolve it and prevent it from spreading southward.
