President Berisha received Turkish General Asiltali

The President of the Republic of Albania welcomed the recognition of Macedonia by the EU countries. (ATSH) Asked to comment on Mr. Gligorov's statement regarding Greece's position, President Sali Berisha called it unjust. He said: “This statement does not serve stability in the region or the calming of the situation. Albania recognized FYROM immediately after the decision of the Badinter Commission, which declared that this country met the conditions of an independent state. Linking its recognition to any constitutional change or name change is neither in international law nor in the spirit of resolving conflicts by peaceful means. Albanians in the former Yugoslavia have not created conflicts; they have been victims of ethnic cleansing policies and Serbian repression. No one can exercise a veto over the right of peoples to freedom and independence.” President Berisha stated that the recognition by the EU countries of the Republic of Macedonia on 16 December 1993 represents an event of importance for peace and stability in the region. During the reception, President Berisha highlighted the great importance for Albania of military cooperation with friendly Turkey. In particular, he praised the high level of exchange of military delegations and army specialists, especially after the signing in Ankara of the military and technical cooperation agreement. President Berisha highly valued the great assistance of the Turkish army in reviving the Albanian army and in establishing fruitful cooperation between the two armies, in response to the shared interests of the two countries and peace in the region. General Asiltali thanked President Berisha for the warm reception and expressed to him his great pleasure at visiting Albania. Asiltali said that the Turkish army is interested in developing relations with the Albanian army. He highly valued the warm and friendly atmosphere he found in Albania.

From “Tribuna”, current organ of the former bloc leaders ADILI ÇARCANI, KINO BUXHELLI testify...

Comrades knew the 1976 Politburo action - ABOUT THE MISUSE OF VEHICLE CIRCULATION PERMITS - On 8 December 1993, in the magazine “Tribuna”, organ of the socialist leadership, an article was published entitled “Why was Sabit Brokaj’s sentence extended?” which defends the former high-ranking official, convicted for abuses. The article brings back to attention old practices of nomenklatura solidarity and raises questions about the responsibilities of the Politburo in 1976. In this context, names such as Adil Çarçani and Kino Buxhelli are mentioned, linked to the issue of vehicle circulation permits and the abuses committed. The text argues that senior leaders knew about and approved the relevant actions, which according to the author makes the presentation of the case as an individual responsibility unbelievable. It further criticizes the attempt to present the sentence as political revenge, bringing documents and memories from the time. (Most of the text in the image is illegible.)
