- Festival of Song ’93—a worthy achievement by RTSH - Festival of Song ’93 presented RTSH as a modern institution that definitively overturned the old, marginal schemes of past festivals, presenting a grand spectacle of Albanian song, with contemporary direction and a national sensibility, complete artistic freedom and a pronounced sense of professional seriousness, with a modern coloring and an Albanian spirit. The Song Festival was an event for our national art and a dignified presentation of Albanian song; it was a pan-national festival, not only because composers and singers from all Albanian regions took part in it. Festival of Song ’93 was, in the fullest sense, a celebration of our song, which means that, after the problems and efforts involved in building democracy, it is moving toward the creation of genuine values and the demonstration of the product of artistic and human freedom. This festival marked the complete freedom of the composer, singer, poet, presenters, director and even the audience, without party orders, without commands, without censorship by a PPSH Central Committee delegate, as had happened in the history of this festival. Nevertheless, freely and spontaneously, simply as a human and civic concern, as an artistic preoccupation, this festival beautifully interwove the modern spirit with the national one, and social issues with national ones. The modern direction by Leonard Qafa, the convincing set design by architects Ibrahim Sylaj and Ramadan Aliu, the high-level artistic leadership of Zhani Ciko, and the live broadcast by RTSH, communicating directly with the audience in the hall and the juries in Shkodër, Korçë and Strugë, show that RTSH has great ambitions to fulfill. «When I Lost a Love» by Vladimir Kotoni, «Rri Dalipit, «The Five Dresses» by Ferdinand Deda, etc., as well as the song «You Are My Own Self» by 16-year-old Struco. Festival of Song ’93 presented lasting artistic values with professional seriousness, avoiding unnecessary imitations that lowered the value of our song in today’s European competition. What was most important about this festival was that, by creating space for all the contributions of contemporary song themes, it brought the song cultivated in the Albanian hearth and under the Albanian sky, which will be developed further over time. Thus Albanian song, too, will be able to be represented with dignity in the Albanian musical world. The grand Festival of Song ’93 affirmed outstanding and experienced performers such as the Berisha couple, Mihrie Brahja, Manjola Nalbani, Anita Bitri, Naim Krasniqi, a Shapgiri, Aleksandër Gjoka, etc., while also introducing young performers such as Gili, Enxhi Nini, Redina Tili, etc., who brought dignity, freshness and a variety of individual styles to the festival. Festival ’93 truly became a modern and festive spectacle, with the freshness and variety brought by the guests, from the «Gjallica» dance troupe to the modern ballet groups of the «Academy of Arts», the Korçë carnival groups, and the trio of Vlora comedians, who once again reminded us of the absurdities of socialist realism in music and the tragedy of socialism in Albanian life. The songs of the «martyr» singer Sherif Merdani followed the pre-school performance. «All this modern spectacle was presented with culture by the presenters, the renowned actor Ndriçim Xhepa and the well-known RTSH figure Silvana Brace. TH. GËLLÇI IS NOT THE ONLY ONE BACKING N. DOKLE; BEHIND HIM IS LUAN RAMA, JUST AS MUCH A COMMON THIEF The communist leaflet entitled «ZP», served up to our people as a newspaper, has for some time been provoking the democratic government and the people, seeking at all costs to spark a civil war so that nostalgia-driven supporters of the dictatorship can return to power and, at the same time, the dismantling and [?] of the national aspirations for a free and democratic Albania can be achieved. The provocations of the five-year-old «ZP» absurdly extend even to President Berisha, who is now known throughout the world as one of Eastern Europe’s most democratic leaders, working for peace, freedom and progress [?], and who has their support. Communist nostalgists have long tried to lure the people into going backward, but they have not succeeded and will not succeed. The communists ignore the fact that Berisha’s profile is being promoted in Europe and that he is seen as a true democrat, supported not only by Albanians but by all democratic countries. What all Albanians should do is support the President and reject the accusations against the President and other democratic leaders. What has been put on display is a campaign of rhetoric in its most paranoid forms. In its anti-national and anti-democratic campaign, «ZP» has gone beyond even the party it represents, to the point that some Socialist leaders themselves have accused it of stepping outside the PS’s political line. This episode could also be regarded as a tactic by the Socialists, an excuse for the truth to come out [?]. This newspaper, which defended Enver Hoxha and then, a few months later, called him a dictator, represents nothing but political prostitution and a degeneration of human morality. But it is clear to everyone that «ZP» is a group of elements of Albanian communism that has not yet changed either its name, let alone its strategy. It still speaks Enver’s language. It was Enver who sowed national division; «ZP» is the one that continues along this path. Through Luan Rama, it goes so far as to compare the democratic President Sali Berisha with a war criminal such as Millosheviçi (!). This is an open provocation by the social-communists against the President, intended to stir up political tension with all the artifices fabricated by their daily «ZP», which incites civil war. This «lion» manages to draw a parallel between Berisha and Millosheviçi, prompted by the arrest of a well-known thief, F. Nano. Rama attributes Nano’s arrest by the justice system on corruption charges to President Berisha. «Sali Berisha and Slobodan Millosheviç»—Rama says in «ZP»—without any [?]. The Albanian justice system remained silent in this case (!). No one would fail to report such a slander and provocation to the courts. Nevertheless, in a way Luan Rama is entitled to write like this. Apparently he has «forgotten» a truth that was reported in the Albanian press some time ago. He has «forgotten» that he was convicted as a common thief for stealing a student’s stock exchange [?], and was expelled from the faculty for a year because of it. How can an ordinary [?] person defend Millosheviç»—Rama says in «ZP»—without any [?]. The Albanian justice system remained silent in this case (!). provocation to the courts. A fire that broke out in recent days at the warehouses of the food enterprise in Cukë, Sarandë, caused damage valued at 200 thousand lekë, rendering about 50 percent of these facilities unusable. Asked by ATSH about the causes of the fire, an expert from the police station in Sarandë stated that it had been deliberately set to cause damage. Investigations are continuing and the person who started the fire has not yet been identified.

GJIROKASTËR, - Bashkim Çami, president of the Court of Appeal in Gjirokastër, informed ATSH that in recent days this court had heard several criminal cases that had attracted public attention.
