“ALBANÇE” FROM BELGRADE TO TIRANA
According to the supporters of that club, called the club of “Albançes,” the abbreviation PAD was on its seal and flag, with the initials “S”, “P”, “D”, “A” and “Hori”? [...] at least peacefully. However, since we were curious, we opened our friend’s door, and I saw with my own eyes that in fact we had before us an ancient organization, certainly from old times, when it was subdued in the late 12th century by the Turks with the influence of the Islamic faith in this country. In any case, from the very beginning, neither in world history nor in the books of Albanology written in modern times can anything concrete be found about the origin of this “Albançe”.
Since 17 January 1994, in Tirana there has been widespread talk about the arrival of a group of Albanians from Kosovo and other Albanian regions in the former Yugoslavia, called “Albançe”. This group included elderly men, wearing white qeleshe caps, dressed in traditional costumes and with a very distinctive manner. They appeared at several cultural and social meetings, arousing considerable interest.
In some circles it was said that “Albançe” is a cultural club created in Belgrade with the participation of Albanians there, which aims to preserve national traditions. Others linked the name to a new initiative by the Albanian diaspora. So far there has been no full public clarification of its history.
In Tirana they were received by intellectuals, representatives of cultural associations and interested citizens. Their visit was accompanied by discussions about Albanian culture, national identity and the situation of Albanians in the former Yugoslavia.
This news was received with particular curiosity, because the very name “Albançe” has an unusual sound and raises questions about the purpose of this group’s activity.

THE HEADS OF THE PS CONTINUE WITH WINDMILLS
The newspaper close to the emigrant circles, “Zëri i Popullit”, yesterday, in its article “Albanian Zhivkov”, sharply “attacked” the President of Albania, Sali Berisha. In this article, titled “The Chairman of the Democratic Party and the President of the Republic,” political labels and comparisons were once again used.
Regarding this issue, the spokesperson of the Steering Committee of the PDSH, Alfred Serreqi, responded to these accusations with a press statement.
According to the statement, the newspaper’s continuing attacks and those of some opposition figures represent an old way of doing politics and do not help the democratic climate in the country. The statement says that attempts to identify the President with failed Eastern models are unfounded.
It further emphasizes that democratic processes in Albania are moving forward irreversibly and that Albanian citizens are determined to support the institutions that emerged from the free vote.
