ABOVE ALL FOR US, IT IS ALBANIA

Meeting with the town of Burrel - attended by the chairman of the PDSH, Mr. Eduard Selami - Meeting with the town of Burrel -Attended by the chairman of the PDSH, Mr. Eduard Selami- On Saturday, 5 February 1994, in the town of Burrel, the initiative group for the creation of the Democratic Party branch of Mat held its work meeting. The chairman of this association, a former persecuted person and chairman of the initiative commission, Mr. Azem Hajdari, said that present at this rally and gathering were also the chairman of the PDSH, Mr. Eduard Selami, members of the leadership Mr. Genc Pollo and Mr. Tritan Shehu, as well as the head of the party’s finance section together with the chairman of the PDSH branch in Tirana, Mr. Jemin Gjana. Mr. Azem Hajdari underlined the necessity for all former political persecuted persons and the entire people of Mat to unite and put an end to the dominance of the past. Later, a telegram sent to the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, was also read out, expressing support for the democratic course and for the fight against the remnants of the dictatorship. On behalf of the PDSH, Mr. Eduard Selami greeted those present and emphasized that Albania needs unity, courage, and faith in democratic values. He said that above all for us it is Albania and that the interests of the country are higher than the interests of any group or individual. Mr. Selami spoke about the need for better organization of the party structures, for preserving unity, and for expanding dialogue with citizens. He declared that democracy cannot be built on silence about the crimes of the past and that those responsible must answer before the law and before society. In the discussions held by the participants, the severe economic situation of the area, unemployment, and the lack of investment were emphasized, but it was assessed that the path of democratic reforms is the only path for the future. The meeting concluded with the approval of the relevant structures and with a call for civic mobilization in support of democratic processes.

THE MOMENT IS HISTORIC, THE SP MUST SEPARATE ITSELF FROM THE CRIMINALS

The Socialist Party must respond to the accusations and publicly and without hesitation make it clear that it will not accept into its leadership individuals who have ordered and organized massacres, who were active participants in the communist dictatorship. Socialists must say openly whether they will continue to accept such people in their ranks or not. Despite statements in recent days, there is still no clear and convincing answer to this issue. Nothing justifies silence in the face of the crimes of the dictatorship. There can be no democracy without a moral and political break from the criminal past. For this reason, any attempt to relativize responsibilities, to disperse them anonymously, or to hide them behind vague formulas is unacceptable. Albanian society expects a firm and honest stance. This is also the decisive test of the seriousness of the reform of the Albanian left. If the SP wants to present itself as a European democratic force, it must unequivocally cut ties with the people who were a symbol and instrument of state terror. The moment is historic and leaves no room for ambiguity.

RESPONSE TO THE SPOKESMAN OF CORRUPTION AND CRIME, ALESI

In various statements and reactions, an attempt has been denounced to distort the facts and to cover up the old links of corruption and crime with people who today try to present themselves as new opposition figures. Alesi, mentioned as the spokesman of these circles, has chosen slander and mudslinging instead of confronting the truth. The public must be made clear that no one can hide behind political labels in order to evade responsibility. If there are accusations, they must be proven with documents and facts. Otherwise, empty rhetoric remains nothing more than service to dark interests. Albania needs the construction of the rule of law and not the return of a spirit of impunity. For this reason, citizens must know who speaks on behalf of whom and whose interests each one defends. Any attempt to obstruct this clarification is harmful to democracy and public order.

MAFTINËZ: “THE ONLY COUNTRIES THAT WILL BE QUICKLY ADMITTED TO THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE ARE: ALBANIA...”

Broadcast by the BBC - Janaq and Shufin Bilbiler of the SP propaganda have completely lost their minds - First public statement In a program broadcast by the BBC, the assessment was cited that Albania ranks among the countries expected to be quickly admitted to the Council of Europe. This assessment is presented as an indicator of the progress of democratic processes and of the improvement of the country’s international image. In the reactions that followed, some voices linked to SP propaganda tried to minimize or distort this news. The article counters this approach by stressing that international recognition is not a matter of propaganda, but the result of concrete reforms and institutional stability. BBC The Janaq and Bilbiler figures of SP propaganda have returned to the scene to diminish the value of any positive news about Albania. According to the piece, this behavior demonstrates political nervousness and an inability to accept the new democratic reality. The author underlines that for Albania, closer ties with European institutions are a national interest and that no one should use this process for petty party warfare.
