Their YES to the Constitution joined the YES of all Albanians. Yesterday’s day of meetings for the Constitution, because it guarantees freedom, private property, the rights and freedoms of the individual, etc. Amid powerful cheers and calls of “We want the Constitution,” President Berisha took the floor and, among other things, said that it was a great blessing to begin the day by meeting with you, people of Dermenas, with you villagers, the masters of the land. With you who, only two years ago, held the land, and the land that was burning and Your vote for Albania, your vote for the Constitution, is a vote for your patriotism, for your love of country. It is the great voice that your fathers and grandfathers have had and will always have for Albania. Your vote for the Constitution is your worldwide and solemn decision to break away once and for all from the past, to move toward new horizons, to have with the generous, brave and freedom-loving people of Myzeqe. President Berisha began with a very warm and enthusiastic meeting held at the centre of the municipality of Dermenas, in the district of Fier. The chairman of this municipality, Ibrahim Morina, after welcoming the President, said: “We were expecting you and were certain” We were expecting you to come and meet the people of our municipality. With this people thirsting for freedom and democracy.” Then Mr Morina spoke about the transformation achieved during these two years of democracy. “We assure you, Mr President, that the people of our municipality will say ‘Yes’ to a free Albania, with free people, independent people, and united as never before in its history. Your vote for the Constitution is a profound tribute to your suffering and sacrifice, and to that of all Albanian villagers under the dictatorship. Everywhere I have passed, in every village and neighbourhood, what strikes you are the new houses you are building. They show not only the great economic means you have created for yourselves in freedom, but also the great faith you have in your lands, in your soil. On 31 October, on the last day of late autumn, PDSH Chairman Eduard Selami travelled to meet the people of Devoll, this wise and hardworking region, to talk with them about that momentous event that has settled right in the heart of Albania: the Referendum and the Draft Constitution. It is a beautiful autumn, with a clear sky, pure air, not a cloud in sight—an autumn in which meteorologists find it difficult to forecast the weather. Of course, it may also rain, but in the hearts of the people of Devoll the raindrops will turn into festive beads, as usually happens on the eve of great events. At the Cangonji gorge, the landscape is almost the same as it was three days earlier at Floq Bridge, by Qafë e Qarrtit, when the people of Korçë had come out to welcome President Berisha. — MEETING OF PRESIDENTS BERISHA AND RUGOVA — Yesterday morning, President Berisha received the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr Ibrahim Rugova. Mr Rugova expressed the full support and backing of the people of Kosovo for the referendum and considers the adoption of Albania’s Constitution very important for the entire Albanian nation. He said that in Kosovo the Constitution had been received as a major event; it had been published and was being followed with great interest by the entire people of Kosovo. He stressed that this Constitution belongs to no political party, but to all of Albania and all Albanians. Afterwards, their discussion focused on the difficult situation in the region and the situation in Kosovo.
