The Socialist Party’s strategy - violence and terror

The Socialist Party’s strategy - violence and terror EDI PALOKA Despair and hatred, these are the feelings that have taken hold today of the leaders of the Socialist Party and are expressed in their daily cries. The latest among the despairing is Namik Dokle, who during the incident caused by his comrades in Parliament declared loudly that as soon as they come to power they will put all the democrats in prison. In the years when the paranoid Enver Hoxha ruled Albania, after every blow the communist regime received from gangs or from abroad, hundreds of innocent victims filled the gigantic pits of death, and not only them. After every failure, E. Hoxha “destroyed” one “group of enemies,” which he selected from among his comrades. Hoxha’s paranoia turned into a disease for everyone who came near or far around him. The years 1989-1991 were the years of the total failure of communism and, by the same token, the years when the communists at the head of the state once again brought out all their criminal rage. It is no coincidence that in those years the most macabre crimes after Hoxha’s death were committed. Seeing failure with their own eyes, Alia, Nano, Ruçi and others around them rushed toward crime in desperation and saw that their end was inevitable. Their acts of terror left hundreds of young people killed and barbed wire in Tirana, Fier, Korçë... And the story continues with even more macabre names after 31 March ’91. Four young sons lost to Ruçi’s bullets in Shkodër, dozens of others wounded. Another year, 1991-92, filled with the victims of U. Fusha, of Shtudic, the destruction of Pogradec and street crime. Communism was evolving well with the blood of its failure. The same faces today, why do they, at the head of that same party, unleash cries of crime? After every failure, at the end of every failed campaign of theirs, the paranoiacs at the head of the Socialist Party scream, insult and curse. Let us not forget the hysterical cries for smashed skulls by the black little short one Kastrot Islami, nor the calls for blood by the provincial Socialist deputy in Kuçovë, nor the “warning” about the return to the fin of the persecuted by Hajdaraga, up to the threats of St. Bartholomew’s Night and Molotov Zego, and now finally Namik Dokle’s threat to imprison all the democrats of the Democratic Party. All these cries have come whenever the Socialist Party leaders have seen, in desperation, their plans fail. There are no fewer than seven failed campaigns and countless other acts of theirs ending in failure. Precisely under the despair of these latest failures do Dokle’s orders come. What can the leaders of the Socialist Party do when they see that the paint is openly revealing them to the people? They returned to the old practice of attacking the pen by declaring that the Albanian people wanted them, hoping to start once again the construction of victorious socialism, the only one standing face to face with the whole world, but... Very soon they saw that Albanians did not want them as much as Ruçi’s “polls” claimed. So when at their meetings people shouted “Down with communism,” when in Rrogozhinë they asked for the blood of the boys, and in Lushnjë even the Socialist Party sympathizers shut the door on them, they were left with nothing else but to unleash once again their threatening cries and openly show their Parliament. For these pale copies, who try to imitate their father’s howls, they resemble only scarecrows, political clowns whose performances can frighten only the race to which they belong. Albanians are building the state founded on tolerance and law, the rule-of-law state that will act against all those who are threatening it.

Serreqi - Fischer

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Alfred Serreqi, received yesterday the President of the Austrian Parliament, Mr. Fischer, and the delegation accompanying him. During the meeting, Minister Serreqi informed the President of the Austrian Parliament about the progress of democratic reforms in Albania, the dynamics of economic development, and Albania’s tendency to integrate into European currents as an absolute priority of foreign policy. A special place in the meeting was taken by the situation in the Balkans and beyond, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed the political stance of the Albanian government as a factor of peace and stability in the region and the need for meetings so that, as long as the Kosovo problem, as a key element of the crisis, is not solved, there can be no peace and stability in the region. For his part, Mr. Fischer reaffirmed the Austrian government’s position of contributing to the acceleration of democratic processes in Albania, as well as its integration into European structures.

Visions that endanger democracy

Fatos Nano and his clan have shown how a country can be destroyed, burned, drenched in blood, and stolen. They cannot, do not want to, and do not know how to build. “…anti-communism, a shameful explanation of the day that has blocked Albanian democracy,” ZP, 27 October ’95 In the lines of Nano’s message, the strategy of nostalgia for the dictatorship is clearly readable; the securing of the two pillars of the secret police, the Enverist ones; nihilism and confrontation; the slowing down of reforms in favor of passing laws, threats to democrats with prison, psychological terror. ZP tries to “softly pierce” this balloon. But in vain. Nano offers Albanians the Albania of 1990-91. Nano’s message, published in “ZP,” turned out to be another blow to the Socialist Party, to its euro-socialists, to the image of the PS at home and abroad. The support for reactionary ideas and clichés led to the “merit” of the overbearing Fatos Nano. The content of his message reeks of nostalgia for the dictatorship, the macabre parade of tanks in the streets. Loyal to his fatherland, he cannot deny himself. Therefore, in his message Nano definitively destroyed the illusions of any member, comrade or friend in the Socialist Party who “thought of him as moderate.” Politician Nano appeared against anti-communism, against anti-Marxism. Sophisms do not hide this truth. Therefore, the leaders of the Socialist Party have difficulty explaining to their members which is stronger among the “no’s.” Today, when the Socialist Party is being attacked for its pro-past and Marxist positions, there are expectations of distancing from them. But Nano cannot do it. Nor can “ZP,” which, in an effort to let the Nano balloon deflate unnoticed, gets very badly tangled and manages to state in its black-letter editorial yesterday: “…anti-communism, a shameful explanation of the day that has (Continues on page 2)

Austria has always been on our side

Speech by Mr. Pjetër Arbnori Honorable deputies, Honored invited friends, Today our Parliament is visited by the distinguished friend, the President of the Austrian Parliament, Hienz Fischer. States should not be judged by their large territory or population and the importance they may have. Austria is truly a relatively small country, but it ranks among the first for the traditional political, economic and cultural assistance it has given us. Whenever we have been in the most difficult situations, its position in support of us has been unquestionable. At the time when the invaders were tearing us apart, the Elder of Vlorë, without support, stood in Vienna for the proclamation of Albania’s independence. During the Austro-Hungarian occupation in the First World War, hundreds of Albanian schools were opened and hundreds of kilometers of roads were built. Vienna has been a center for famous Albanologists, but also one of the places where many intellectuals, who are the pride of Albania, were educated. Even in more recent times Austria has given encouragement to democratic developments in (Continues on page 2)
