The pseudo round table of reconciliation

The leadership of the Democratic Party parliamentary group has once and for all rejected the Socialists’ “round table” and has defined the institutional and party-based form for resolving the crisis DOKA[?]NATA Yesterday afternoon, after the proposal from the party leadership, the leadership of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party reached its final decision. According to reports from deputies in the Democratic parliamentary group, the position toward the Socialists regarding the “round table of reconciliation” has been clearly defined. Despite the abuses and the very active interest that developed in the media controlled by the opposition and other circles in recent days for its realization, the Democratic parliamentary group considers this “round table” to be a completely unnecessary initiative and harmful to the pluralist system. PD deputies believe that just as the opposition has lacked the political honesty to admit that there is no political or institutional crisis in Albania, but only a crisis within the opposition parties in their internal relations, so too is the moral courage of their leaders lacking to stop their dangerous game of destabilizing the country. Their non-participation in the meeting called by the opposition leader, to which some weak leaders of parties in his coalition were also drawn, not only exposes the opposition propagandistically as a force of 1992, but clearly points to its real aim (alignment with a political opponent) and to the philosophy of its conflict with the institutions of the Albanian state. Sources from R[?]D[?] state that the leadership of the Democratic group considered the “round table of reconciliation” not only unnecessary, but also evidence of the opposition’s lack of political responsibility toward the national interest, and that it is conditioned by unresolved issues. If there are real problems, they can be discussed in state bodies and other democratic forums. Representatives of the PD, despite speculation in the opposition press and other circles that the PD parliamentary group is divided, yesterday afternoon finally defined their position. They will continue to insist on the parliamentary and institutional route for solving every problem, within the framework of the constitution and the laws in force. As was learned last night, even before the decision of the PD parliamentary group had been announced, the party leadership had considered the Socialists’ initiative for the “round table of reconciliation” unnecessary. Representatives of the PD parliamentary group said last night that they are convinced that, with their decision, public opinion and the country’s institutions have been given a clear answer, revealing the PD’s determination to defend political pluralism and the country’s democratic system.

Reactions from the Greek government and opposition political parties to President Clinton’s interview

Sokrate[?] Zanjafka[?], byline[?] of the Athens newspaper “Honesa”, in a comment published yesterday, recalling the statement made by Shali[?] Berisha on 27 July 1992 at the UN General Assembly, that “a country’s foreign policy is oriented toward national interests and the first priority of Albanian diplomacy remains the Kosovo issue,” emphasizes that “we can speak of a crown”. According to the publication, President Berisha’s “anti-Greek stance” is clear, considering his statements about Vorio-Epir as “provocation[?]”, while it describes the interview for the newspaper “Ethnos” as “a response to the pressure exerted on Athens by the Greek-American lobby”. The newspaper goes on to say that the Greek government sees the interview as an “important document” for relations with Albania, but assesses that there is “no change” in Tirana’s policies. Meanwhile, the opposition parties have used the interview to criticize the government. ATSH
