Albanian socialists
meet the founders
of their party
After the complete failure to establish any ties with any Western party or even with other former communist parties from the reformed East, such as the Hungarian or Polish ones, the former Albanian communists find comfort only among the former communists of the Balkans and Milosević's communists, who are still in positions of power in their countries.

The Socialist International is closed to Albanian socialists
Fassino stated in an interview with ATSH that this party still has work to do in reforming itself toward a social-democratic program. He denied that there are official relations between the Socialist International and the former Albanian communists
One of the main leaders of the Italian left and of the Socialist International, Pietro Fassino, stated that the Socialist Party still needs time before knocking on the doors of the Socialist International. Despite the socialist Albanians' repeated claims that they are being seen as renewed, Fassino stated in an interview with ATSH that this party still has work to do in reforming itself toward a social-democratic program. He denied that there are official relations between the Socialist International and the former Albanian communists. "We are the only ones in the first contacts with this party," he said, stressing that the party's decision would help make the Albanian political system analogous to the European one.
So far, the Socialist International has had contacts only with the Social Democratic Party, which is placed on the left wing of Albanian politics.
Fassino does not wish to be skeptical about the reform of the SP, although this is expected to be reflected through facts and concrete activity by the socialist opposition, which so far has not been demonstrated.
Further below, Fassino said that anchoring Albania in the European Union is essential, and therefore Italy is in favor of speeding up the country's association talks with this organization of Western countries.

The opposition has never been in favor of a real opening of the files of those who committed crimes

Question: Is it not true that the decision brings to light the very values of democracy, the law for the screening of the figure of senior political and state officials?
Answer: Once again democracy was scorched because right from the beginning they are losing and the inexisting nature of social justice. This law proves to us that we do not agree either with the present time, but neither is it chosen solely from the past, which their parents dedicated their lives to, from the right and the freedom that are costing the life of the generation of ...[?]
... Instructions of the dictator, lack have done evil, they have no responsibility for crimes. Thus life will be free with all those who will escape democratically.
Perhaps, comrades, it is not a matter of appearance to deal with Albania, but it is necessary to deal with the return of crime in Albania.
What is the answer of the communist extreme to the Serbs of the files and to let it go to the judiciary and in the acceptable but in the presentation of the law of ...[?] opponent with the order of the laws page.
... have never been in favor of a real opening of the files of those who committed crimes. They were only for the flies and mosquitoes to be condemned and for the louse to be left free to trample underfoot.
How can one condemn a collaborator of the security without condemning the security officer, without condemning the one who did the full form of security and is responsible for the crimes?!
We agree that both one and the other should be condemned, but above all those who conceived the crimes should be condemned.
The law is very normal and will keep out of politics those categories of people mentioned above.
The commission that will be established will have the right to contact who has the right to choose and who does not. The law is not to condemn parties but the incriminated persons. This law will separate those, the parties, whether PD, PR, PS, PSD and all the other parties. Those individuals who today shout will thank us tomorrow. They do not have the courage to thank us because they are with their comrades.
Question: Mr. Pjetër, with the drafting of the law have you taken into account the experience of other post-communist countries?
Answer: Yes, we took into account the German, Czech, Hungarian law, etc. After looking at all of these, we reached the conclusion that we should not pit people against one another, but the screening must also be done for the incriminated. If we acted like the Germans, we would set husband against wife, father against son, etc. That is not our aim. If the State Security has taken boys and girls into its hands after catching them in some mistake and used them for its own purposes, we think that if these people have not committed any obvious crime, they may recover and be reintegrated into life. The German law applied there has caused family traumas, because the husband denounced his wife. Therefore we cannot adopt a law that is very broadly used every day. The Czech law likewise excludes personal cases from the files from any employment, while we have limited it only to key posts.
For all these reasons we believe that the law to be put before Parliament is an optimal law that aims at reconciliation and coexistence in a democratic society.
