The one-day official visit to Romania by the President of the Republic of Albania, Dr. Sali Berisha, at the invitation of the Romanian President Jon Iliesku, was an important event in the development of the multifaceted relations between the two countries and our two peoples, in promoting cooperation and expanding contacts in various fields. Romania is a friendly country, with which Albanians have traditionally maintained good and wide-ranging relations.
This assessment was shared in the face-to-face meeting of the two presidents and later in the official talks held between the delegations of the two countries.
At the first meeting, President Iliesku welcomed President Berisha to Romania, highly valuing relations between the two countries and expressing confidence that this visit would take them to an even higher level. President Berisha thanked him for the invitation and the appreciation, emphasizing that this visit is an expression of the good relations between the two countries and will serve their further development.
In the official talks, in addition to bilateral relations, views were exchanged on current Balkan issues, especially the crisis in the former Yugoslavia and the situation in Kosovo. A shared conviction was expressed that peace and stability in the Balkans are closely linked to respect for human rights and national rights.
President Berisha underscored the need for a peaceful solution to problems and the importance of strengthening cooperation among the countries of the region.
