On Wednesday, the government spokesperson, in a statement to the media, declared that the PD could not remain indifferent in the face of accusations concerning financing and corruption. The PS responded with a strange statement, saying that the 400 thousand dollars are in the party’s coffers and not in the chairman’s pocket. This version has been the same one used by many Socialist leaders, and until recently it served as the main argument to defend the head of the PS. But now? That question arises when one carefully reads part of the PS statement, where it says that this kind of accusation in the party’s name against the doctor could only be made by desperate and morally unbalanced people. How is it possible for the same PS statement to give both sides, which hold the same position, the right to be right? After all, what worries the party led by Fatos Nano more: the doctor’s image or the party’s standing in the Albanian media? The public distancing at this moment between the chairman and the party sounds more immoral and more shameless than the very definition that was made of them through this statement. A brief retrospective of the Socialist Party’s actions can provide a clearer explanation for those who still believe the chairman’s speeches. During the first hearing of the trial against Mr. Ilir Hoxha over the statements about the 400 thousand dollars, the only sign of reaction that came from the PS was the order to boycott the show "Drejtori flet" on TVSH, just so that no connection whatsoever between the 400 thousand dollars and Fatos Nano’s name would ever appear on screen. Once it became clear to the public that the clarification of the issue could lead straight to the party chairman, the PS hurried to officially declare that the 400 thousand dollars paid by a Greek company had gone into the party’s coffers, and that the whole leadership group knew this. So everything must have been known and then forgotten for years. But then how is it possible that left-wing parties have used this issue for years to attack the doctor personally? According to the logic of the PS response, if not even a single penny from the Greek company was illegally used to finance the 1992 campaign, then the accusation of financing the campaign camps with Greek money also falls apart. If so, then why were the Democrats emphatically asked, no less than a year ago, during a Parliament session, to give up this accusation? After all, what drives both the right and the left to dance to the same rhythm of lecturers?

The Media Commission reacted to yesterday's statement not only because of the consequences it could have on the ongoing trial. Nano never ended the statement with such an idea; on the contrary, he tried to create the narrative of pressure on justice. Regardless of any exaggeration, no one had any right, after the statement by the opposition leader, to present it as if the relevant judicial body had been influenced by the statement. What has actually been noticed in recent days is the attempt to alarm the opposition in defense of one of its deputies, without knowing to the end where the money comes from that has been speculated about for so long.
