Who is this Fatos Nano?!
These remarks are made in particular with regard to the head of the PS, whom they wanted to portray as an enviable figure, so much so that they came up with the definition “an outstanding and rational politician.” If we take into account the context of the accusations made against him for the disappearance of more than 9 million dollars through the “Lecco” affair, as well as for deceiving the public on a large scale through licensing, Nano is in no way exonerated. Even if he were an excellent journalist, the Albanian public does not excuse Nano in the slightest. Speaking with great reservations, I leave it to the reader to judge the truthfulness of the accusations made against the socialist leader. “Lecco” seems to be doing harm to the PS as well. If until now they have tried to present it as a force untouched by the past, they are now finally providing evidence themselves that the socialist leader, dead or alive, associated with such affairs, is linked to the past. In many press opinions, serious and highly significant doubts have been expressed that the disappearance of these sums may have occurred in close cooperation with the Italian firm “Lecco,” where it was managed by a relative of Fatos Nano. In this context, it should be said that publishing such a file against Nano and using terms like “an outstanding and rational politician” cannot change reality. After all, 9 million dollars vanished are still 9 million dollars vanished. Speculative compromises about political morality cannot save this figure from public questions. Many have the right to ask how such a portrait can still be maintained in the face of serious doubts and accusations. That is the issue that matters to public opinion, not the rhetorical embellishments of interviews or analyses that try to present the socialist leader as detached from the dark legacy of the past.
Zef Brozi tries to deceive Mr. D. Vioni’s secretary
On 17 July 1995, the Secretary General of the Presidency of the People's Assembly, Mr. Lulzim Misha, stated that at 9:45 a.m. on 17 July he appeared and urgently received an envelope addressed to Mr. Dylber Vioni. Written on the envelope is: “To the President of the Constitutional Court, Dylber Vioni,” but according to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Aleksandër Meksi, the envelopes were not delivered by the relevant institution and, according to him, the delay in receiving them was related to procedures. It is further stated that this document concerns important matters and that it was dealt with hastily. According to the source, the clashes are related to the way institutional communication is handled and not to any personal issue. The text also mentions Zef Brozi, who, according to the article, attempted to influence the treatment of Mr. D. Vioni’s secretary. The article has accusatory tones and presents its own version of the event, implying that there is an institutional conflict with a political backdrop.
The no-confidence motion against Minister Zhuli - support for those who destabilize the Balkans
NURIK GJINI
Explanations without actually clarifying. An unsubstantiated reaction. Defense of a failed diplomatic course. These are the impressions left by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the no-confidence motion against her minister. After all, if we set aside the sugary, not only childish but also cynical, way in which the spokesperson labels the opposition voice as “naive,” “primitive,” “foggy,” etc., how can one contest such a motion? Faced with the utterly incomprehensible positions of Albanian diplomacy regarding the latest crisis in the former Yugoslavia and the contradictory statements that have accompanied the stance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the no-confidence motion takes on particular political weight. The article says that the government and the ministry have followed a line that has objectively helped further destabilize the region, aligning themselves with unclear positions that are harmful to the Albanian national interest. It also emphasizes that public positions have created confusion and damaged the country’s credibility. The article calls for political accountability and a deep review of the diplomatic course.
Zhulali: “I cannot get into Dokle’s head”
After last night’s warning by the head of the socialist parliamentary group, several political exchanges took place the day before. The article begins with a statement by Mr. Zhulali, who says that “I cannot get into Dokle’s head,” responding to comments and interpretations from his political opponent. It then says that Foreign Minister Zhulali sought to clarify his position after the debates that erupted in public opinion and in the Assembly chamber. According to the article, Zhulali refuses to interpret his opponent’s motives, but insists that his stance is linked to the national interest and developments in the region. The article also mentions the reactions of socialist MPs and the clashes over diplomatic issues. (Continued on page 2)
Zef Brozi puts pressure on the newspaper
The Tax Investigation Directorate at the General Directorate of Taxes has arrived at the “Albin” Publishing House with an inspection report. Its director has stated that the action was taken because of an article published in the press. The article links this inspection to an attempt to pressure the journalist and the editorial office. It further emphasizes that the inspection came after the publication of a piece mentioning Zef Brozi and his actions. According to the article, the tax administration was used selectively to pressure the media and discourage the publication of criticism. In the end, the article raises questions about press freedom and the use of state institutions for political purposes.
