Dialogue with the electorate, an institution and a determining factor for victory in the upcoming elections

On 26 June, the date of the constitutional referendum, the Chairman of the PDSH, Mr. Tritan Shehu, described as the day of the beginning of free communication between PD members and the electorate at a working conference in Tepelena. According to him, on that date the ruling party and the electorate came together in becoming aware of, recognizing and studying the new Constitution, a fundamental legal act on which the rule-of-law state and democracy in Albania will be built and function. The Chairman of the PDSH, Mr. Tritan Shehu, while addressing these issues, stressed that in an overall democratic process the dialogue between the PDSH organization and the electorate is of special importance, where various problems will be dealt with properly and solved, with sensitivity, willingness and mutual tolerance. He warned that, despite the noticeable improvement in the country’s economic and social situation, the shortcomings noted mainly in the state administration cannot be overlooked; nor should there be any euphoria in the sense that “democracy has reached its maximum.” In these terms, according to Dr. Shehu, meetings within the grassroots organization and the various structures of the PDSH with the electorate represent an important institution for creating a greater spirit of tolerance and understanding ahead of the upcoming local elections. On Sunday in Tepelena, Mr. Tritan Shehu stated that dialogue with the electorate should be understood as a permanent process that continues with questionnaires, attention and free discussions in every family, in every large and small collective, at the polling station and in the workplace, in the city and in the village. This form of communication with the voter should be conceived as a natural, democratic path, which does not weaken but strengthens the party in its relations with the broader public. In this framework, the Chairman of the PDSH also dwelt on the need for a more responsible administration, more capable and more sensitive to citizens’ demands, linking this to the success of reforms and to the trust of different strata of the population in the party and democratic governance. Do not touch December

“The instigators, the Euro-socialists and the anniversaries are trying to distort December '90” The Chairman of the PDSH, Sali Berisha, made an appeal to public opinion to guard against any attempt to distort the student protest and the democratic movement of December. The Chairman of the PDSH, Sali Berisha, made an appeal to public opinion to guard against any attempt to distort the student protest and the democratic movement of December '90. “There is a distortion of the events and of the role of the various forces in the movement of December 1990. It was and remains a movement of the students and professors of the University of Tirana, which was strongly supported by the citizens of Tirana and of the whole country. We cannot accept attempts to attribute this movement to the forces that at the time opposed its ideals,” he declared. According to him, some former leaders of the communist regime and segments of the left are trying to minimize the role of the students and of the political pluralism that emerged from that movement. He stressed that December remains the moral and political foundation of democratic change in Albania. “We will not allow December to be desecrated, relativized or presented as the product of those who until yesterday were its opponents,” Berisha said.
