Enverism against the President of the Republic and the Democratic Party

Statement of the Presidency of the Albanian Democratic Party Having analyzed with seriousness and a high sense of responsibility the situation in the country, the course of political developments and, in particular, the anti-government campaign initiated by a group of left-wing politicians with an anti-democratic, anti-reform and wholly anti-national orientation, encouraged and subsidized by certain European political and media circles and by certain segments of anti-Albanian secret services, the Presidency of the Albanian Democratic Party reaches the following conclusions: PS and its satellites, centered around the most unyielding Enverist nostalgics, declared and converted Stalinists, is turning day by day into a dangerous anti-democratic, anti-Albanian and anti-European force. The mask of Fatos Nano’s reformism and false eurocommunism has finally fallen. He, as the heir of the family and of the communist nomenklatura that carried out genocide and massacred Albanians for half a century, inspires and personally leads the frontal attacks against the President of the Republic of Albania, the Democratic Party and every true Albanian democrat in the country and in the world. PS, under the guise of a European left-wing force, is proving that it has not been reformed. It continues to articulate right-wing, extremist and anti-reform political platforms. Its anti-government campaign aims to highlight, as openly stated in its platforms, the missed chance of Albanians to build the rule of law, the market economy and civil society. By denying every achievement made in Albania and the country’s visible progress in recent years, the group of left-wing politicians, with the commitment and fanatical support of the former Sigurimi and Enver Hoxha’s secret police, is trying to discourage foreign and domestic investors, to encourage the flight of Albanian capital abroad, to hinder economic development and our country’s integration efforts in Europe. This force, which with absurd zeal is endlessly publishing books, newspapers and pamphlets full of fabrications and slander against institutions, is emerging as the most violent force against reforms, private property and the market economy. The Presidency of the PDSh warns that, in the face of the growing destructive activity of PS and its allies, any institutional concession would be dangerous for the country and for democracy. The Democratic Party strongly condemns the slanders, insinuations and baseless accusations voiced against the President of the Republic, against constitutional institutions and against the foreign policy of the Albanian state. The President of the Republic was elected by the pluralist Parliament and enjoys full constitutional and popular legitimacy. Any attempt to undermine his figure and discredit the institution of the Presidency constitutes a direct attack on the democratic order. The Albanian Democratic Party considers that the recent declarations and positions of the Socialist leadership and its media organs are inspired by ideological hatred, political revenge and the aim of blocking democratic processes. Efforts to portray Albania as a country without stability, without institutions and without prospects are part of a deliberate strategy to damage its international image. These attacks are in full sync with the interests of anti-Albanian circles that have never desired the strengthening of the Albanian state and the Euro-Atlantic orientation of our nation. The Presidency of the PDSh calls on all democrats, citizens, institutions and independent media to firmly reject the language of hatred, political slander and attempts at destabilization. Only unity around reforms, the law and institutions can guarantee Albania’s European future.

Dokle has uncovered enemies in the European Union

The chairman of the Socialist parliamentary group, Namik Dokle, speaking on behalf of the opposition in yesterday’s parliamentary session, accused the government of acting against the country’s interests. According to him, the government is isolating Albania, impoverishing the people and seriously damaging economic development. In complete contradiction with the integrative spirit of today’s Europe, Dokle also sharply attacked the diplomacy of European countries toward Albania in his speech. He claimed that there are centers in the European Union that are hostile to our country and are trying to influence Albanian political developments. Commenting on Albania’s relations with European institutions, he used harsh and accusatory tones, trying to present the government as responsible for every difficulty of the transition. According to him, the opposition is the only force defending the national interest. His statements were opposed by deputies of the majority, who stressed that Albania has made visible progress in its relations with the European Union and with international bodies, and that the opposition’s accusations are part of a political campaign for domestic consumption.

The Albanian electorate supports the PD

The European Commission Representation in Tirana confirms the Eurobarometer figures Support for the Democratic Party among Albanians continues to be clearly higher than support for the opposition. According to data cited in a recent analysis of public opinion, the majority of citizens support the course of reforms and European integration. The report mentioned says that the Democratic Party enjoys greater public trust because of institutional stability, economic developments and a clear Western orientation. The opposition, meanwhile, is presented as lacking a convincing alternative and using conflictual rhetoric. According to the article, the European Commission Representation in Tirana has confirmed that the Eurobarometer assessments match the trends observed in Albania and that the reform processes have created a more favorable political and social climate. The article also underlines that Albanian public opinion positively values relations with Western partners and the role of institutions that have supported democratic reforms in the country.
