Albania, the country of the economic miracle
Berisha received World Bank vice president Kemal Dervish
President of the Republic Sali Berisha received the Vice President of the World Bank, Kemal Dervish.
At the meeting, the President said that the progress of economic reform in Albania is surprising everyone, not only because of its speed, but also because of its depth. According to the President, the country is in rapid economic expansion, with inflation under control, with growth in investment and production, as well as a noticeable improvement in the population’s social indicators. Thanks to the comprehensive reforms, he told Mr. Dervish, Albania is regarded as the country of the "economic miracle" in Europe. Albanian citizens are feeling more and more every day the fruits of the reforms, seeing new businesses opening, more jobs being created, and production and exports increasing. The President informed the World Bank vice president about the reforms in agriculture, the distribution of land, the establishment of a fair taxation system, and the privatization of facilities, and expressed his conviction that economic stability will also be reflected in the country’s political and social development.
Mr. Dervish congratulated the President on the results achieved in Albania. According to him, Albania is moving at the fastest pace in the region toward a market economy and is creating a favorable climate for investment. He particularly praised the efforts for macroeconomic stability and the improvement of public administration.

According to an American poll
“PD will get 49 percent in the election, compared with 20 percent, which the poll shows for the socialists.”
The optimism in the PD for the upcoming elections has also been supported by the results of a poll made public yesterday. At PD headquarters this was welcomed with enthusiasm, while representatives of the opposition questioned the methodology of the surveys.
