Flattened out

Yesterday, in the latest parliamentary session, the Socialists and neo-Communists staged yet another open demonstration of irresponsibility and of complete political and moral decomposition. After the black dossier and the wall-sheet against the chairman of the parliamentary group of the PDS, Sali Berisha, in an act as vile as it was dramatic, they denied by opposing vote the basic constitutional right of the opposition to debate in the session the highly tense situation in the capital. The time being summoned by Albanian socialism is taking on dark colors and shades; everywhere one can feel the Marxist spirit of the darkest years. These consequences have been brought by the worst of worlds, the time and regime of the rebels and of the government. There is nothing accidental in these developments. Sali Berisha has had and still has reason when he declares that there can be no compromise with socialism. This asocial period of the present power has brought Albanians terrible anguish. Let us remember what our academically renowned figure in Europe, Rexhep Qosja, said only 3 years ago about the Albanian anti-communist parties: “They are the same as the master and the goods in this country. They are just as anti-national, just as anti-popular, just as destructive to everything.” This is how the communists act today. They crushed them, stole, imposed a constitution that asked nobody anything. They shook the life of the country with rebellion and now they try to serve us all this wreckage as pluralism and democracy. Against the anti-communist opposition speaks not only justice but also the sovereign. Tirana are experiencing this more clearly than anyone else. This was demonstrated by the grand rally three days ago in “Skënderbej” Square. Socialism lost its calm. The Communists could not withstand the free civic surge. To oppose something to this ordinary, calm and democratic strike they flooded Tirana with all kinds of mixtures, cowboys, thieves and adventurous types, forgetting that the citizens of Tirana have been accustomed to freedom for 7 years and do not obey police and terrorist hordes. Tirana denounced the dirtiness of Nano’s party with disgust, and this was clearly seen from the terrible emptiness at the city meeting with him. Whether from lack of wit or a moment of confusion, the newspaper “Koha jonë” indirectly denounced the red rally by calling it a “protest against Berisha.” This was in fact a deception to manipulate public opinion, since everyone knows that Berisha has not been president for years. The electronic and print media did the same thing. Tirana, with a powerful mobilization to curry favor with power, also gathered 2–3 buses of militants from the districts. As can be seen, they have no support in Tirana, the city that better than anyone knows their betrayal. Let us pause over Kokëdhima’s speech. It overturns every ethical and human code. Such people are capable of committing crimes in the name of politics. But does anti-communism have support in Tirana? At least three times as much, and even they cannot deny it. They can never challenge that elementary truth, but they should not become ridiculous, because Tirana people do not honor won ugliness, which passes from anti-Albanianism into a wild, inhuman forest-like thing with all speeches and writings. The people of Tirana do not want a rebel regime. The people of Tirana now follow this madness with revolt and contempt. The people of Tirana are aware that they have won not only freedom, but also their dignity. The Socialists were deeply offended yesterday. Perhaps such a public revolt from the symbol city of freedom for all Albanians frightened them. They cannot bear the fact that the city of intellect and civic thought is despising their offensive more and more every day. Whether you like it or not, you reborn ones and all the bootlickers of the government, with or without beards, this is now a fact. Tirana denounced yesterday with force the red rally of the junta at “Qemal Stafa” and the criminal government that organized it. Tirana and all Albania are rising to their feet against the red brigade that is blocking the fate of the nation. Every socialist day of ours is one more day toward leaving it behind. The future belongs to the citizens. In the end, the macabre rally came to nothing. For the Socialists of the capital this was not only a political loss but also a major failure, where the crowd leaving the stadium before Fatos Nano’s speech was also the certificate of the real failure of their “show.” At the end of the speech, since he could not overcome the “stress” of failure, the last prime minister of Albanian post-communism closed the rally with a “be strong in spirit” for the red nostalgic who had come by buses bearing the PS label. The wretches believed in the last form of communism while the ground itself was slipping away beneath their feet. So, in Tirana, the communists will not have victory. The votes of the capital’s citizens will strike their regime hard once again. If there are still citizens in Albania who accept the deception and the soft tyranny of these post-communist adventurers, that can never happen in the at least somewhat civic capital of Tirana, which knows there is no government more corrupt and more anti-human than the present one.

The elections in Albania have been conducted properly

Joint press conference Rapopdan- Kauffaiter The Central Election Commission is convinced that the chairwoman of the commission, the verification commission and the rapporteur of the Council of Europe for the parliamentary elections in Albania. At the joint press conference, these same participants, Ms. Kauffaiter, assessed that her electoral districts are quite promising and free, before guiding characteristics, based on the establishment and functioning of the structures, the parties and their campaigns in that of democracy. Dr. Veronika Kauffaiter recommends that some improvements be made to the electoral structure. She believes that an excessively large commission is a flaw, one that is hardly likely to be good. She advocates better use of the counting commissions and a clearer explanation of the voting arrangements on election day. In his statement, the representative of the Council of Europe, Mr. Rapopdan, said that the conduct of the elections will be quite significant, if we have doubts, and that the Albanian transition will be clear and correct. “We evaluated these elections also on the basis of a visible progress in political culture. It should be noted that during this electoral campaign the rules of democracy were respected. Political parties must accept the election result. Representatives of institutions, various election officials and commissions must refrain from public statements and comments and must respect the result,” Mr. Rapopdan said. In response to the many questions from domestic and foreign journalists, Mr. Rapopdan clarified that the Council of Europe has all its reservations and will make them public in the final report on Albania. Kauffaiter stated that electoral systems with different rules exist throughout Europe; in Albania, as it appears, the system is majoritarian and proper. “Correctness is based on the law,” she said, stressing that a large commission is less efficient. Rapopdan spoke about Albania’s challenge, according to which it will be seen whether the political parties will respect the election result. “So far, with the force of law, every obstacle has been overcome. We hope that the institutions will function well and be able to successfully face the next parliamentary elections as well.” CORRESP. OF “RD”

Yesterday at the PS headquarters: Enver’s nostalgics attack journalists

As a result of the PS confusion, both the old and the red one are wandering around. At this time a group of journalists, eyes open and on the spot, came out of the central headquarters of the Socialists, where the Socialist Party was holding a rally with figures and personalities from the past. Logical enough to leave the big and the tired ones. Those journalists could turn it into a provocation, in which, according to them, besides a few nostalgics, a symbolic number of Enverist and PS figures also took part. A group of young people from the Socialist Party began a demonstration, officially organized by the association of intellectuals and students of “K”, pushing the journalists one after another with shouts. In this clash, they reached the ugly conclusion that some citizens were insulted with the most banal words. This prompted the immediate reaction of the journalists, who also gave testimony about this incident. This, accompanied by strong protests, put the organizers of the rally in an awkward situation. The journalists left in open opposition, denouncing this pressure. The escalation of this event became even more evident when several people approached with threatening behavior. The incident shows the tense political climate and the lack of tolerance toward the media. Namik, servant of the PS, is presented as the one justifying this incident. This shows that the Socialists still have ties to methods of the past. CORRESP. OF “RD”

The DP victory, good news for the West

The Albanian chairman in the newspaper “The wall Street Journal Europe” writes: Some small parties and the Socialists, the largest part, in the life of the October parliamentary election. The right wing developed in order cannot be in defeat, to have things from reformist movements, with movements because it would be a wrong sign that would give freedom to the socialist Maoists. Broad and resultless mass, yes. If this officially, parliamentary government exploited free democracy of all and of the total number of votes to the detriment of the opposition. The others, together with us, are a group that hands over the citizens of Tirana. Page 2

The leftists recount Europe GJINUSHI: “Zhduk Senter rejected us”

Members of the coalition “Europe together with the Socialists” saw yesterday’s decision of their district with tears of performance in their eyes. It has been said that with the excuse of the first, there is no longer any stage fright or theatricality left in the Bruskoll. It is now quickly understood from the humor that Gjinushi is in a kind of comedy for the DP without awakening even nostalgia, but Zhduk Senter and with Palliumi of Ceka
