A vote for PD is a vote for the final victory of democracy

Berisha and Shehu in Shijak Socialists — unacceptable Berisha and Shehu in Shijak A vote for PD is a vote for the final victory of democracy Socialists — unacceptable The Chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania, Mr. Sali Berisha, continued his tour in the city of Shijak. In his speech, Mr. Berisha gave a lengthy account of the problems the country is facing today and of the Democratic Party’s program. He stressed that in this election campaign the country is in a critical situation because of socialist misrule. Albania, Mr. Berisha said, has been reduced to the poorest country in Europe and the one with the lowest income level in the region. This reality is the direct consequence of the socialist government’s irresponsible policies and corruption. The Socialists have never spared themselves the stealing of votes and then have tried to vote first, as Enver Hoxha used to do. They put at the head of the state the man who was supposed to decriminalize Albania and instead gave the country the most clientelist and most depersonalized government. Albania is not the opposition, but the criminalized, corrupt and hopeless government. A vote for the PD is a vote for change. This political force’s campaign is being conducted under conditions of great inequality. The state, the administration, public television and financial resources are being openly used in the interests of the majority. Nevertheless, citizens are determined to vote for their future. Mr. Berisha emphasized that the PD is the only force that guarantees integration, development and the rule of law. At this meeting, Mr. Berisha also addressed the events in Kosovo, emphasizing that Albanians in Albania and Kosovo are one nation and that the drama unfolding in Kosovo requires maximum national and international commitment. He condemned Serbian ethnic cleansing policy and called for solidarity and assistance for the people of Kosovo. Also speaking at the meeting was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tritan Shehu, who declared that the Democratic Party is the alternative Albania needs to get out of the crisis. According to him, the current government has failed in the economy, public order, institutions and in defending the national interest. He said that a vote for the PD is a vote for the country’s European future. The democratic victory on 20 October in Shijak made it clear that the citizens of this district do not agree with the present regime. Everyone who is disappointed by the Socialists’ lies and abuses should unite around the Democratic Party. Only in this way will a deserved victory and the salvation of Albania be possible. The President of the Republic, Sali Berisha, received representatives of the villages of the Gjepalë commune, led by Mr. Hamit Muka Gjeçi, and of Milloti, led by Mr. Mikel Gjeçi, who conveyed the major concerns of the residents of these areas, especially the free fall of the Albanian economy. The guests presented a series of concerns and demands, such as the catastrophic condition of the roads, the lack of markets for agricultural products, the lack of agricultural inputs, chemical fertilizers, fuel, pesticides, etc. In statements made before those present, the residents stated that there is no more time for experiments and that the country must return to reforms, investment and work. They denounced the lack of transparency of local government and the misuse of public funds. After thanking the residents for the excellent welcome, Berisha stressed that their voice would be part of the PD’s program and future decision-making. He expressed his conviction that on 20 June the citizens will give Albania the direction it deserves and will open a new chapter of hope and development. Press conference of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tritan Shehu “We are concerned, not about the situation of the people, but about the way the government is treating the community... Whoever boycotts the elections, boycotts democracy

Press conference of Mr. Klaus Jürgen Hardt At a press conference, Mr. Klaus Jürgen Hardt, a CDU representative and member of the German Bundestag, stated that an election boycott would be a blow to democracy in Albania. According to him, Albania needs functioning institutions and free electoral processes, while exclusion from political participation would only deepen the crisis. Hardt stressed that the country must move forward with reforms, the rule of law and an administration that serves the citizen. He said that political actors must show responsibility and cooperate to guarantee fair and transparent elections. The CDU, according to him, strongly supports the strengthening of Albanian democratic institutions.
