PD victory in 58 municipalities and 267 communes
KQPZ statement announcing the final results of the elections for local government bodies
Albania's example is expected in the Balkans
In the second round of local elections, PD won in 58 municipalities and 267 communes, securing a majority of seats in the municipal and communal councils. This was made public yesterday at a press conference by the KQZ spokesman, Albert Sokoli.
The two parties of the opposition spectrum, which won several communes and municipalities, have accused the administration and the electoral commissions of manipulating the result. These accusations have been rejected by the central election bodies, according to whom in general the voting, counting and announcement of the result were correct.
Senior officials of the public administration, speaking in various media, have assessed that the smooth conduct and successful conclusion of the 20 and 27 October local elections serves the consolidation of Albanian democracy and its institutions. These officials described the elections as a test of the country's administrative and political capabilities.

Bill Clinton: A certain victory
US presidential election today
Today in the United States they vote for the Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole and for the 34 senators of the Senate for a new four-year term for the new President and the new Vice President. In the House of Representatives sessions, the American people will elect 435 congressmen and 34 senators.
Former US President Bill Clinton, the Democratic Party candidate, and his Republican rival Bob Dole, and the Reform Party candidate Ross Perot, are at the height of the election campaign. According to the latest polls published yesterday, Clinton enjoys a clear lead.
The campaign ended with large rallies in key states. Clinton called on the electorate to vote for economic continuity, while Dole attacked the administration on moral and fiscal issues. Analysts assess that voter turnout will be decisive for the final result.
The example of Albania leads in the Balkans
At the point of Prime Minister Aleksandër Meksi on the conclusion of the local elections
The process of the local elections of 20 and 27 October, which included all the communes, municipalities and districts of the country, has now ended. Anyone who wanted to follow this constitutional and human process for the state and society closely could reach the shared conclusion that Albania has won, and has won with honor.
In this context it has become clear that Albanian democracy has entered a new stage, leaving behind the difficult years of transition and fruitless experimentation. Despite the accusations and political noise, Albanian citizens proved their maturity, while the institutions carried out their duties responsibly.
The elections showed that political pluralism in Albania is a functional reality and that electoral competition develops according to ever clearer legal standards. This makes our country a meaningful example for the Balkan region, which is still facing tensions, instability and transition dilemmas.
The successful conclusion of this process is a merit of the citizens, the election administration, the political forces and the state institutions that have protected order and legality. Albania has shown that it knows how to organize free, fair and peaceful elections, strengthening its position in the eyes of international partners.
For precisely these reasons it can be said with conviction that the example of Albania leads in the Balkans.
