The special envoy of the Council of Europe, Mr. Anzhelu Korama, and members of the delegation passing through Albania were received yesterday by President Sali Berisha. The meeting lasted about 28 minutes. At this meeting, President Berisha presented a picture of the political situation and constitutional order in Albania, the difficulties created by the communist uprising, but also the willingness of the legitimate institutions to restore order and resolve the crisis by political means.
Mr. Berisha stressed that Albania needs strong international support and that cooperation with the Council of Europe has an irreplaceable role for Albania and its future. He underlined that the legitimate central and local institutions continue to function and enjoy the support of the law.
The delegation of the Council of Europe was informed about the situation in the country, the damage caused in some areas by armed groups, and the efforts of the authorities to normalize public life. The President asked that European bodies support stability, democracy and the constitutional process in Albania.

Political Secretary of the Italian Christian Democratic Party Casini, in Tirana
A little while ago, Mr. Pierë Kasin, chairman and general secretary of the UDC and vice-president of the Christian Democratic International, stayed in Tirana on a working visit.
Accompanied by the Secretary General of the PDS, Mr. Arben Imami, Mr. Casini held a number of meetings with senior representatives of Albanian politics.
During the talks, Mr. Casini and the delegation accompanying him were received separately by the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, by the chairman of the PDS, Mr. Tritan Shehu, and by Mr. Benvenuto of the Italian Socialist Party, by the chairman of the Christian Democratic Party of Albania, Mr. Zef Bushati, as well as by other representatives of Albanian political forces.
These meetings broadly discussed the latest developments in Albania, the serious situation created by the crisis, and the need to resolve it by political and institutional means. Mr. Casini praised the role of the center-right forces and emphasized the importance of international support for the democratic stabilization of the country.

In a broad discussion held yesterday in the premises of the PDSH central headquarters, its chairman, Tritan Shehu, met with Italian parliament member Mr. Pier Ferdinando Casini. Senior representatives of the PDSH and other center-right parties also took part in the meeting.
The talks addressed the political developments in Albania, the serious situation created by violence and armed rebellion, as well as the responsibilities of political forces in overcoming the crisis. Mr. Casini said that Albanian democratic forces are not alone and that the support of European friends will continue.
He stressed: “We will always stand by you,” underlining the importance of strengthening democratic institutions and finding a political solution to the conflict.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of understanding and political solidarity.
