In the telephone conversation, President Berisha pointed out that the major obstacle is the armed committees which, by controlling territory, are creating a climate of terror for Albanian citizens and are committing numerous crimes. Berisha emphasized that, regardless of technical discussions over the electoral law, the fundamental problem remains the disarmament of the gangs, the restoration of order, and the guarantee of citizens’ freedom. For his part, Austrian Prime Minister Franz Vranitzky stressed that the issues discussed regarding the election law are not essential. President of the Republic Sali Berisha, expressing his deep sorrow and sense of loss caused by this painful accident, sent a message of condolence to the families of the victims of this tragedy. In his message, among other things, he says: “I was immensely saddened by the news of the tragic loss of your loved ones. According to the DUVUT ENTER Agency: The Albanian government has not offered Sazan to the Americans as an American base. “From reserved sources,” it was reported that Prime Minister Fino called a press report in the Italian press a slander, according to which in his conversation with NATO Secretary Javier Solana, he had proposed that the island of Sazan be temporarily given to American military forces as a shelter base.
