The Rome Conference, called on the initiative of the European Community, aimed to mobilize immediate and medium-term support for Albania. But this conference produced nothing concrete on aid, apart from strong political and institutional conditions. Vranëçi asked the Socialist Party to distance itself from the gangs and not hold the country’s stabilization hostage. European Union countries expressed reservations about the ability of Albanian officials to manage the aid, pointing to a lack of political and moral credibility. In this harsh climate, Albania is paying the price for a reckless policy that has deepened the crisis and endangered national interests.
