The government is putting a noose around the citizens’ necks
The crony-power approves the extreme impoverishment of Albanians. Astronomical tax increases. Prices are expected to skyrocket. VAT, from 12 to 22 percent
From 1998 on, Albanians will pay more than ever for everything they buy and consume. According to the decision of the Nano government and its Commission for Drafting Fiscal Policies, the turnover tax will be abolished altogether, but in its place, VAT of 22 percent will be applied, up from the current 12 percent.
The increase in VAT, no longer in a systematic way but in a quarrelsome style, affects all consumer goods, starting with bread, oil, sugar, milk, rice, eggs, meat, grain products, clothing, school supplies, transport, energy and even various services.
With the VAT increase, the government aims to fill the empty treasury by shifting the burden onto citizens, who are already exhausted by high prices and unemployment.
The decision presented for next year’s fiscal policy also provides for further increases in excise duties and customs tariffs, which is expected to directly affect the rise in market prices.
Although part of the official reasoning speaks of harmonization with European standards, the immediate effect on Albanian families is expected to be an unbearable worsening of living conditions.

The Socialist majority votes against itself
Today in parliament, the “Anonymous” commitment
originates mechanisms of the requested changes only within the framework of local government and asked that the proposal be withdrawn, which, according to deputy Xhafa, would “express the will of the majority to turn into a new dictatorship.”
In fact, the debate on constitutional changes, related to the manner of electing local bodies, has been accompanied by strong opposition and not a few reservations even within the Socialists themselves.
