Bomb at the Tirana Municipality
The terror and pressure of the installed government on local government escalate
Bomb at the Tirana Municipality
Nano “honestly” threatens Brojka. The Prime Minister plays the hypocrite over the serious incident at the Palace of Congresses. The criminal act of Nano’s bodyguards is not condemned
Terror against local government and the hypocrite’s “apology”
The brazen, gangster-like action against the Tirana municipal officials comes after threats and blockages ordered verbally by the prefect of Tirana, as well as threats of fines from the Financial Police Directorate.
The National Assembly of Communes and Municipalities, in a special press statement, yesterday denounced the threats and pressures against local government institutions, elected by the citizens through free and democratic vote.
“One week ago, on the verbal order of the Prefecture, the accounts of the Tirana Municipality, as well as several other local units, were frozen in state banks with absurd and ridiculous justifications. Dozens and hundreds of employees’ salaries have remained unpaid, while citizens are being delayed in receiving services. And what is the justification? The justification is that local government, in its own form, does not obey the prefect’s authorities. All this is done at a time when local government is the only institution that has resisted chaos and anarchy in Albania and today, with its own funds, has exemplary calmed many areas in the country. We call all these actions against local government a criminal and unconstitutional act, worthy of totalitarian regimes,” said the statement of the AKKB.
Meanwhile, the Tirana Municipality comes forward with a direct accusation concerning the placing of the bomb in its building.
According to official sources from the municipality and the findings of criminal police experts, the placement of the bomb and its remote detonator with military precision was planned for the time of the meeting of the Tirana Municipal Council. The bomb was placed under the stage where the municipal council meeting was being held, which was under the protection of the Republican Guard. It contained 3.6 kg of explosive, shell fragments and anti-tank grenades. Fortunately, the device did not explode, but this does not reduce the high dose of terror exerted on the chairman and members of the Municipal Council. Yet it is no wonder that this representative of free vote and pluralism would be one of the preferred targets of communist terror.
The National Assembly of Communes and Municipalities declared that it was deeply shocked by the repeated attacks on local institutions freely and democratically elected. These attacks culminated in the placing of a bomb at the Tirana Municipality during the Municipal Council meeting, which constitutes a terrorist act and an obvious attempt to intimidate and frighten the organs of local government. The Assembly calls on all political forces, the government and state institutions to unequivocally distance themselves from such acts and to strongly denounce their perpetrators and instigators,” the statement said.
It also asked the state authorities to take immediate measures to clarify this serious event and to guarantee the inviolability of the local government bodies and representatives.
Terror and the hypocrite’s “apology”
Through his public spokesman, Prime Minister Fatos Nano last night issued a statement regarding yesterday’s terrorist act at the Tirana Municipality. In style and tone, it is typically Nano-esque. Paraphrased, it is as follows: after insulting him, threatening him, financially blocking him, sending police and military forces to occupy offices, attempting to assassinate the political opponent and planting a bomb, the hypocritical prime minister “expresses his indignation and deep shock to the mayor of the capital, Albert Brojka…” He further assures him that he has “charged the highest representatives of the police and other bodies with the full and swift investigation of this act…” Yet this same prime minister, just 48 hours earlier, had sent Brojka “keepers of order” into his office and insulted him there as a lowlife. Who is this man trying to impress, anyway?!
The Palace of Congresses, Nano’s bodyguard with mafia traits
After the appearance of the Municipal Council decisions that infringed on Prime Minister Nano’s personal interests regarding the premises of the Palace of Culture, the Tirana municipal officials found themselves facing threats, blockages and orders from the central government.
Although part of the print and electronic media tried to minimize and distort the aggressiveness of Prime Minister Fatos Nano’s bodyguards toward the Tirana Municipality officials, they still could not hide the whole truth.
The serious incident of Thursday at the Palace of Congresses, where the Tirana municipal officials were carrying out a routine inspection of the offices turned into living quarters for Fatos Nano and his partner, was worthy of mafia-film scenarios. According to sources from the Tirana Municipality, Nano’s bodyguards entered the offices of the Tirana Municipality armed, where the inventory of the occupied premises was being made, and in loud and vulgar tones threatened and insulted the administrative staff and financial police officers. Later, the Prime Minister’s bodyguards snatched the inspection report from their hands and tore it up, rushed in with kicks and broke the window of the inventory office car. Meanwhile, the head of the financial police stood limp in the face of the violence and arrogance of Fatos Nano’s bodyguards.
Even more unbearable is the hysteria and demagoguery of Fatos Nano’s spokesman, who, after calling this rush toward terrorism of power “duty performance,” now, with a typically totalitarian shamelessness, presents the banditry of Nano’s bodyguards as a “misunderstanding”!
