Albanians are increasingly demonstrating the great distance they have established from the left-wing rulers. Everyone has noticed these days, more than ever, the rulers’ appeal in the face of the masses of people, their hardships and sorrows, which arose precisely as a result of the power usurped by the Socialists. For thousands and thousands of Albanians, it has been a time of fog and darkness, a time of poverty; it was a time of calm, and now the time of gangs in the streets and offices has arrived; it was a time of investment and employment, and now the time of thieves and smugglers has come. This negative change, this return to Communist poverty, is rooted in the condemnable rule of Fatos Nano, the common swindler and government drunkard, and in the thieves and irresponsible people at the head of the government. June 21 is the first [unclear] for a man who dreams of [unclear] from his Kalashnikov and his prison womb. Votes for the Democratic Party are votes to bring to power those who have people as their allies, not their own families; who stand for everyone, not just gangs and smugglers. It is now clear to everyone that moving forward with Albania’s former Communists means moving closer to democracy, the future and happiness. There is no way people will cast their votes for those who deceived them a year ago, for those who broke into Albanians’ depots, created gangs all over Albania, filled the prisons with thieves and criminals of every stripe, all armed and with barges, while appearing on TV and rejoicing in the poverty of thousands of Albanians. Today in Albania there are more than 300,000 unemployed, but also more than one million residents who create their happiness with other people’s blood. Today in Albania more than 2 million Albanians live at the subsistence minimum, but there are also ministers with 18 million dollars in cash. Today Albanians have completely lost all their money deposited in pyramid schemes, but there are also government officials who took millions from precisely those deposits. Today there are 200,000 homeless people, but there are government officials with villas in Paris and Thessaloniki, with hotels and motels on Albania’s beaches, and with discos and bars in the country’s capital. Today hundreds of Albanians are condemned and abandoned by the state and the law to face criminals, but there are also hundreds of criminals dressed as police officers, soldiers and officials—even advisers or ministers. This is the picture of their one-year government: they go out asking for votes after [unclear] the Kalashnikovs of the spring of the year, with hundreds of [unclear] all around them—Albanians or gangsters who are the [unclear] contingent of the Socialists’ [unclear] rats. Who could vote against themselves? To vote for the Socialists is to vote against yourself: to vote for this government to continue, for smuggling and the illegal enrichment of the Albanian government, for people to become even poorer, for rebellion to remain on a pedestal and for democracy to be buried. June 21 is no small test. It is the measure that shows how much Albanians think about their future, how ready they are to integrate into Europe. A strong “no” to Albania’s former Communists, rebelocrats and [unclear] who have suffocated us is a strong “yes” to democracy, a much better future, security and a great change toward a better life. also more than one million residents

The DP delegation concludes its visit to France Yesterday at midday, the Democratic Party delegation, led by its Chairman Sali Berisha, returned after a successful visit of several days to France.
