Nano, the bloodstained one of democracies
Albanian democrats have now taken the missing road, protesting for the overthrow of the Nano government. That government has taken into its hands a mandate that was not given to it by the Albanians, but granted to it by foreigners, thanks to a harmful policy. The Albanian people have rejected through their vote the Nano-communist government, a government led by a man accused of the killing of MP Hajdari, a government accused of burning the South, which can receive no other mandate than the one it has, a mandate of violence and terror, mandates that make possible the rule of a criminal clique through persecution and imprisonment. The only road left now is revolt, because democratic means have been burned by this government and its parliament. The opposition protest is not a spontaneous protest, but the result of citizens’ refusal of a criminal government. This government emerged from manipulated elections, stained with blood and terror. It has turned the state into an instrument of gangs and political mafia. The country has been engulfed by a severe crisis of trust, poverty and insecurity.
It is not only the opposition that seeks the removal of this government, but all Albanians who feel threatened, humiliated and denied. Under these conditions, protest is legitimate, moral and necessary. Albania cannot move forward with a government born of manipulation, with a prime minister accused and institutions captured by crime.
In these decisive days, citizens are rising to demand the return of democracy, free elections and the rule of law. This is a confrontation between citizenship and violence, between freedom and tyranny. Albania must choose.
