Now it is poetry’s turn

By NËN LONDO With his latest work, proposed and published with support and enthusiasm, the poet Shkëlzen Kuqozo-zgërron advances among the ranks of poetry. Recently he has also brought out a poetic collection titled "Shtjellat e jetës". This collection is introduced by a foreword by the poet Petraq Risto. In the foreword, titled "Mbi një temp gjethzimesh", the author considers that the collection of poems bears witness to a distinctive voice, with clear worldviews and its own way of expressing itself. According to him, the poet Shkëlzen Kuqozo has known how to penetrate the dreams, experiences, thoughts and soul of a person living amid the different settings of our transition years. For this quality, Petraq Risto believes that his poetry flows freely, moving between everyday life and dream, between the real and the imaginary, leaving its mark. One of the poems included in this collection is titled "Rruga e humbur", which immediately stands out for its first line: "I ikin viteve, rininë ma rrëmben". For about two pages, the poet tells the reader about the traces left by age, about sorrows and moments of happiness, about losses and the thirst to find the meaning of life. Another poem titled "Bregdet" is built with touching notes. Further on the poet writes: "Të kam parë nëpër valëzime, nëpër rërë dhe në perëndim". Throughout the book there is a sense of figurative description and rhythmic construction of the verse. This collection marks another step in the author's work and a contribution to contemporary Albanian poetry. ON PAGE 10

Let's regain the lost freedom

The Democrats of Tirana warn of the downfall of the murderous government Berisha: We will not return to parliament, to a club of ignorance, to the roads of crime, murders, terror, drugs and smuggling, to the exoneration of the nation The Albanian people have lost freedom of movement. This is the conclusion reached at the latest meeting of the leadership of the PD Tirana branch, held last night. The forces in power are controlling and recording in an unacceptable way the movements of deputies, ordinary citizens, journalists and opposition activists. These checks by the secret police, even against opposition deputies, constitute a violation of constitutional rights. All participants in this meeting called for civic protest and the development of a popular reaction against this regime. According to the speakers, the government of Fatos Nano has completely lost control of public order and is using the police to strike at political opponents. At this meeting, former president Sali Berisha declared that the opposition cannot return to a parliament where crime, drugs, murders and smuggling rule. He said that the country is under a climate of political terror and that only a civic response can save Albania. ON PAGE 2
