Protests continue throughout Albania The Union for Democracy is organizing a large popular protest in Durrës today at 18:00 against dictatorship, for the overthrow of the Nano government, the release of political prisoners, the opening of state television and the defense of democracy.

Today at 11, the “Union for Democracy” is holding a large protest rally in the town of Peshkopi to overthrow Nano’s clique, remove the government and release political prisoners.

Rotten eggs and tomatoes were thrown at Foreign Minister Paskal Milo today while he was in Peshkopi to inaugurate the opening of the OSCE office in the town. Thousands of peaceful demonstrators, chanting “Death to Communism,” “Let’s save the government,” “Free our brothers,” “Down with the Nano-Milo clique,” and “Down with the traitors of the nation,” pelted Foreign Minister Milo with rotten eggs and tomatoes. The OSCE ambassador in Tirana, Daan Everts, also attended this peaceful protest and witnessed firsthand the people’s revulsion toward the Nano-Milo clique, not only in Tirana, Elbasan, Kavaja and Shijak, but also in Diber and throughout Albania. This is the first time a foreign minister in Albania has been pelted with rotten eggs and tomatoes.
