After resigning from the post of prime minister due to the popular reaction and the mass revolt against his government, and after failing in all attempts to save his own skin, Fatos Nano managed yesterday to carry out the final stage of the scenario that had long been prepared and that has brought to Albania murder, crime, chaos, rebellion, economic destruction and total corruption. Nano’s resignation, resulting from the failure of his coup d’état scenario, with the killing of politicians and journalists, with the violation of independent institutions, but not as his political responsibility for the drama that took place in September, left room for him to continue controlling the government and the political scene from behind the curtain. For this reason, the replacement of Nano with his trusted man, Pandeli Majko, if seen in this context, makes it clear that the outgoing prime minister, although forced by public opinion and international pressure to resign, is trying once again to play the role of guardian of the country that he brought to such a miserable state in terms of the economy, order and the state structure. A government coming from him and with his puppet at its head cannot bring Albania either calm, hope, or a solution to the crisis, but only the recycling of a corrupt and criminal power. The replacement of Nano at the head of the government with Pandeli Majko is essentially a move intended to avoid the political and criminal responsibility of the socialist leader for the serious events of the month of September. Instead of being brought before justice for the killings, for the blood shed, for the violation of the state and for institutional degradation, they are trying to sell the idea of a false restart with a new face, young in age but old in convictions and in service to the clan that brought the country to this point. Finally, it must be said that the way Majko’s candidacy has been imposed within the PS shows not only its deep crisis, but also the lack of a real alternative in the socialist camp. The names mentioned as part of this scheme bring no guarantee of change, only the continuation of a failed policy.
