PD, not a façade for the referendum
The opposition is in a situation of violent movement faced with a constitution that not only does not solve the political chaos, but deepens it. Today the opposition faces a major historical obligation not to become part of a vote that essentially legitimizes an anti-democratic process. It is enough to remember that the referendum of 22 November is being held without the consensus of the country’s main political forces, in circumstances where one side controls the administration, state media and the instruments of pressure. This makes fair and equal competition impossible.
If the opposition accepts to take part under these conditions, it will not only legitimize a farce, but also lose the moral right to oppose its consequences later on. The referendum cannot be used as the democratic decoration of a government that has failed to build the rule of law and that uses institutions for propaganda. Therefore, the PD’s position is a political and civic refusal to become the façade of a manipulated process.
